Hello all - Deposit paid on PCX 125

Post by Simon0867 »

Morning everyone,

Delighted to find a dedicated forum for the PCX and looking forward to reading about all your experiences.

I live in Scotland and have just traded in my wee 50cc Sym as part payment on a PCX 125.
I used scooters constantly for commuting between Fife and Edinburgh from 2003-2007, but following a couple of prangs I moved back to the big city and decided to pack it in. However the two wheeled bug never leaves you so last year I bought the 50cc for trips around the town and really enjoyed it. The limitations of a small cc bike are quickly obvious so finally decided to trade up again.

I've bought a PCX 125 from Two Wheels, Edinburgh big Honda dealership. The best scoot I ever had was the Honda Dylan SES125 which was incredibly reliable, so no hesitation about buying from the same brand again. My PCX is second hand, but an immaculate late 2014 model, one previous owner with only 1200 miles on the clock and still under warranty. Paid £2099 which I thought was fair.

Got to arrange my CBT (crazy UK rip off money making law) but should be collecting the bike within the next three weeks or so, looking forward to it.

Below is a picture of the PCX I took in the showroom.
I also have a Youtube page called Scootering in Edinburgh, ( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 57MIItlfVZ ), with films taken from trips on the Sym around the city if anyone is interested.

All the best.

Nice scoot Simon0867, got mine in Siena Red 2 weeks ago and absolutely loving it. I was same as you, sold my wee 50cc puggy done the CBT, and cannot believe the turn of speed it has, you'll really enjoy the bike.

Love your last trip through the capital, looking forward to our yearly visit to the Edinburgh Fringe later next month, looks like your weather is better than we get on the west coast.

Thanks everyone. Got nowhere arranging the CBT today. Now looks like w/c 17th August if I'm lucky. It's a piece of nonsense the whole thing. I've had a car license for 25 years and completed 3 CBT's in the past yet still have to take this again. It is a money making exercise pure and simple. I heard that in Portugal anyone with a full car license can ride up to a 125cc before any additional testing is required. Now there is a sensible law. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.

Delighted to hear you are a Festival fan willie5094. I always take two weeks holiday from work in August to take in some shows. A lot of Edinburgh people moan about the whole thing, and to be fair the city does double it's population for that month so it can be a bit chaotic, but I love it, such a buzz about the place. Hope you have a great time.

Totally agree with you Simon I've been riding a 50cc for 5 years and done my CBT last month and to be fair I never learned anything that I didn't know, like you I've been driving since 1986 and been driving an ambulance for 22 years as a Paramedic, but as you say its a money making exercise.

I actually sent an email to the UK Transport Secretary yesterday complaining about the absurdity of the CBT situation. I would imagine it will be quickly deleted but it made me feel slightly better :-)

The main motorcycle trainers in Edinburgh are proving a nightmare to deal with. They sent me a list of 3 possible dates in August, then ignored my calls and emails for two days. Then I got an email telling me all the dates were full but they'd be arranging more for the subsequent week today. As that corresponds with a week off work I said any day would be fine and to just let me know. As of this evening I've heard nothing, dreadful customer service. If I hear nothing tomorrow then I'm going to call the guys in Fife I did my previous CBT's with. I'll need to travel up there for the day but at least they are reliable.

Wow I am amazed that you are having so much trouble getting a CBT organized. I just popped into my local one, booked in paid £30 deposit and that was it.

I'm amazed too. There are only two training centers in Edinburgh. One is linked to the Honda dealership where I bought the scooter but they were booked up until early September. This other company seem to have a chaotic idea of customer service. Like I said I'll give them until tomorrow morning then I'll phone the guys in Dunfermline, it's only 45mins away on the bus.

There is 3 I'm sure. I've used City school in edinburgh and found them great. Two wheels and saltire are the other two in edinburgh.

Ah well it's not a huge problem. At least you aren't collecting mud in your autonomous collective.

My only problem is it's a 9am start, on a Saturday 25miles away, and I have stuff to do Friday evening, may try to reschedule this rate going from this week so far I'll be a sodding zombie.

isnt there a law that states if you passed your car driving test before a certain year you automatically gain a 125 licence as well?? so a CBT isnt necessary?

I could be wrong..but i am sure there is something like that

https://www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-mope ... nuary-2013

Car driving test passed before 1 February 2001
You don’t need to take compulsory basic training (CBT) to ride a moped if you passed your car driving test before 1 February 2001. You’ll still need to complete CBT to ride a motorbike, however.

Car driving test passed on or after 1 February 2001
You need to take CBT to ride a moped if you passed your car driving test on or after 1 February 2001.
However, you won’t need to take further theory and practical tests or take CBT again.

So, you could pass your car test, do a single CBT and be good? interesting. Food for thought.

I've been riding a moped for the last year on my car license (no CBT or L Plates). Enjoyed it, but the lack of speed and journey potential got to me in the end.

Two Wheels are selling me the PCX, but they had no CBT bookings available until early September. I hadn't thought of Saltire, didn't know they did training, must remember that for the future. City was the obvious choice as it's quite near where I live, however I can't say I've been impressed. They sent me a list of available dates, which I accepted. Heard nothing for two days and then got an email telling me they were all full and no extra days would be from 17/8 onwards. Asked them just to put me on anything that week and confirm, but again heard nothing. Gave up today and phoned the Motorcycle Training School in Dunfermline. They booked me in for Saturday 1st August and for £50 cheaper than City ! I've used them in the past when I lived in Fife. It means I'll need to catch an early train up on the Saturday but at least that will be it done. Interestingly I got another couple of potential dates from City when I got home today, both of them pre-17th August !

Anyway, barring a disaster by Sunday 2nd I'll have the all important piece of paper and can collect my PCX. I'm on a fortnights holiday from the 10th so will have plenty of time to get used to it and go for some decent runs.
