Reliability test report of Dr. Pulley sliders & mods

Post by clemence »

Hi Guys,

I just want to report my earlier modification using Dr. Pulley sliders and stock variator:
http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3189.
Hope this would be useful.
It's been a while since I modified it and I never checked it (except added more weight once to the sliders) until last week after a long trip back and forth from Jakarta to Bali. Most of the time the bike is my everyday transportation. I think the last trip wasn't meant for this tiny bike, and myself too.
The odometer was 21.606,4km (2014-07-11) when I post my mod (new dr. pulley sliders, new pulley + variator set, and mildly worn belt)
Now, it's 36.001,5km (2015-09-26). So it's been 14.395,1km (1 year 2 months 15 days) since the modification first used.
The last 2846km was the trip back and forth Bali - Bandung - Jakarta - Bali. You can see the picture and screen capture taken from my Garmin Montana 650 below:

Bali - Bandung trip

And then I noticed the GPS has screen capture capability!

Bandung - Jakarta - Bali trip

I recorded max speed at 111km/h (118km/h in tachometer). I didn't want to risk crashing out of nowhere, my average top speed maintained at around 90km/h most of the time. Night driving really took more concentration. The last time I checked, the top speed went down to only 122km/h. I'm very sure it's from the worn belt

Here's the pictures for you guys to enjoy:

All in all I'm very satisfied with the result. The wear is definitely better than stock roller. I just need to add a stainless steel thin washer between the variator - pulley halves to stop the constant erosion from the impact when the variator closed to the left pulley. I already bought a set for my new PCX150 but now the rumors says Forza 300 is about to be launched in Indonesia hmmmm..... :o

Clemence, great writeup, thanks for the feedback.
I'll check the belt conditioning spray- I have never heard of it before - but I have to add that the PCX is first scooter I own.

BTW. you live in one of the most beautiful places on earth. I've worked in Jakarta for some time also, but visited Bali a few times and spent my honeymoon touring on a scooter and a small suzuki jeep all around Bali. I miss that part of the world.

I use CRC belt conditioner spray. DO NOT over spray! Even enough application will makes your belt slip for the next 20ish km. During that "slipping period" don't accelerate too hard to prevent the belt from get burnt. Otherwise you'll end up with worse belt. Regular use will maintain the elasticity of the belt. I use it every oil change (5000km, though the manual says 4000km for oil change).
Indeed Bali is one of the best place I've ever lived across Indonesia. Anytime you visit Bali you can contact me. You can also try a week scooter tour to circle the whole island with your wife. Actually you'd need a full month to visit the too many beautiful spots and cafes on the way! :D

Try Irfanview as a free photo editor to compress your photos so they don't take so long to load.

Hi Sendler,

It's not that big. Even my USB mobile modem with only 1Mbps max speed load the whole pictures in less than 10 seconds. I don't know if www.uploadhouse.com as my file host has problem in your country

Yes, it is that big. Many, like myself, have limited data allotments. Image-laden threads with oversized images like this one make me deeply regret clicking on it. There went at least a whole day's use!
I wish there were a way to embed in the forum page a subheading of the Mbs in a page. Probably impossible, but please, Clemence, have mercy and downsize your already very nice pics.
Thanks!

I truly lost! I've lived through the 80's and 90's. I've seen how the world before the internet exist. And I've experienced almost all the internet evolution history from the very beginning, where the 28,8kbps US Robotics dial-up modem was the coolest modem in my country as space age as how it sounds, to the lightning fast home optical cable wireless routers. I had to wait like forever just to load a single page with only tiny 256 colour pictures in it. Even chatting in MiRC had some serious delay/lag back in time
Today you can download a full DVD movie in less than 15 minutes or even lesser than that in countries like Korea and Japan....
What I really forgot was.....no matter how fast the internet connection we still have to pay for the data packet!  Especially those with mobile phone. I live in a country where everything is generally cheaper than most other countries, including internet data plan (be it mobiles or landlines). So, I was wrong to generalize that to my personal standard. When I said it took less than 10 seconds to load....It was actually cached! With a fresh browser, indeed it takes 2-3 minutes to complete loading all the pictures (using my trustworthy snail USB modem).
Once again I apologize for uploaded too big pictures. I was trying to help this community using good and clear pictures. I downsized all the picture to 1024px/768px horizontal/vertical resolution and only 85% JPEG compression using ACDSee. Next time I will post the thumbnails instead, so you can choose what to download without has a regret to ever click my post. For now unless the moderator let me, there's nothing I can do to re-edit the post

Cheers,
Clemence
