Crashed today
I took a spill on my commute to work today. Same turn I take every day, a block away from my apartments. Turning right at a light, I either leaned in a but too much or hit a greasy spot (it was a dry day, though). One moment I'm fine, the next I'm sliding down the road. I had a green light, so there was no oncoming traffic to my left, just slow turning cars behind me as well. Full gear, so not a scratch on me, but the right brake lever ended up twisted, and there was some cosmetic damage.
First crash. Hopefully no more down the line.

As the old saying goes, "It's not a question of if, it's a question of when." We all will eventually fall. It happens. The trick is to learn from mistakes, get back on, and not do it again.

Please list the "full gear" that you were wearing! I think I need to start buying some!

Re: Crashed today
Yeah, I'm a little shaken. Bike went to the shop, all damaged covered after a 500 deductible. When I get it back, I'll be back on the road.
I wear thick jeans, and an LS2 ff386 helmet, a corazzo tempeste jacket, and leather gloves. Fortunately my head didn't touch the ground. Not a scracth on the helmet. Armor saved me from some bruising, though. I was on my feet in less than a second making sure the cars behind me saw me.

Grief another one... hope the damage is easily repaired. Making me think twice about a few more rides before I park her up this winter.

If you have to go down then this is how you do it. Fix your putt, check your helmet to be sure its not compromised (I have that helmet) and get on with it. Good job.novapersona wrote: Full gear, so not a scratch on me, Hopefully no more down the line.

I try and not lean too much on any corners or bends, just enough to get round and accelerate on the exit (ease off entering any bend). Just trying not to tempt fate is busy urban traffic - damn tail-gaters do not leave much gap if you come off!

Re: Crashed today
Way back then I was headed to the local lake with a bottle of Yago wine stuffed down the front of my pants
rounded my favourite hairpin corner-got to drag those pegs-Oh Oh diesel spill
over the edge-maybe 25 meters-through rocks and trees
the bottle of wine still intact and not a scratch on me or the bike
shit house luck
took three of us 20 year olds to drag the bike back up to the highway
defying centrifugal forces so much fun on a bike
but now that I'm in my sixties a little more wary
still once in a while like to twist around a corner

Sorry about your PCX nova - I'm glad to hear you escaped unscathed at least.
This vid sums up how I feel whenever I see a new crash thread start up - it seems like there are more crash threads here than on the old Ninja 300 forum I used to frequent

Re: Crashed today
Tha past month has seen more crash reports than I have seen over the past 2 years - by a large margin. I bet lots of them were on City Grips too, not just stock tyres.

I make it a point to never ride with glass bottles near my nether regions. I'm wincing just thinking about what could have happened.

Folks need to stick to bicycles until they learn how to stay upright on two wheels. Motorsickles don't come with training wheels.GatorGreg wrote: This vid sums up how I feel whenever I see a new crash thread start up - it seems like there are more crash threads here than on the old Ninja 300 forum I used to frequent![]()

I think it would be interesting to know that. If you are up to it, let's hear from some (or all) of you who have been unfortunate in the past while, particularly those of you who have had your bike slip from under you.iceman wrote:Tha past month has seen more crash reports than I have seen over the past 2 years - by a large margin. I once went to pick up a bottle of whisky on my old trail bike. Shoved it into my blazer pocket and promptly fell off two roundabouts later. Whisky me and the bike survived

Re: Crashed today
Scooters tend to be ridden by novice riders...Of course, the Ninja 300 is an entry level bike as well...but I know a lot of people start out on scooters just to get a feel for the two-wheels-and-an-engine thing. could have a lot to do with it.GatorGreg wrote:Sorry about your PCX nova - I'm glad to hear you escaped unscathed at least.

Re: Crashed today
From my travels, scooter riders in London ride better than many L or fully licensed riders on 125 motorbikes - too many of them speed, swerve in and out of traffic thinking it's cool or ride fast over zig-zags without even stopping to see what's happening around crossings. At least those on 125 scooters seem to ride with a bit more care. Once you get to the big bikes them usually the riders take more care (still go past the lead car on zig-zags) but don't behave like adolescents on smaller CC bikes.
