My Dad just mentioned the Yamaha MT 125 Bike to me, as I told him I want to get a geared Bike to try and obviously start getting used to that before I do my full test..

I was originally wanting the Honda MSX, but checking dimensions for the MSX and the MT, there isn't that much difference, but cost IS a big difference,
i've seen used MSX Bikes for about £1900 the cheapest, but the MT, used, is about £3k cheapest,
for a first geared Bike, I don't want to go too ott with price...

Only thing is, the MT actually looks like a big Bike :-/
where as the the MSX looks small, but again, dimensions show there isn't too much different.

Anyone know about the Yamaha MT Bikes?
i've been wanting to get away from Honda, especially after the hassle with the PCX.

The MT-125 is an R125 without a fairing.
Its a shitload of money for a 125.
As a learner you're far better off with something a bit old and scruffy as you're bound to crash or drop it a few times.
If it has to be geared, and definitely best to get a geared licence, get yourself a used YBR 125, ride it for a year, get your test passed then get an MT-03 or Z300

The hassles you're having are more to do with a shite dealer than the brand of bike, but personally I will be avoiding any more Thai built Hondas in future.

I need something small/low as i'm only 5'5 and don't weight that much either,
I also need something small as to park it into my garden every time, I have to stop and reverse a bit and turn and squeeze etc,
that's why I thought the MSX would be perfect, but with my Dad selling me about the MT and obviously checking the dimensions,
but yes, the price is a little steep for the MT, even with used ones....
I don't mind paying £1900 or close for a MSX as I paid £2400 for the PCX

Yamaha's YBR 125 has a 30mm lower seat than their MT-125
The MSX isn't really a serious transport option imo, its more of a novelty bike.
There are plenty suitable new and used 125s available at good prices.
Have you ever heard of Sinnis...?

I think Yamaha are generally the best quality and most reliable bikes you can buy.
Like GN2 says, get a YBR 125 and use I for a year or two.

YBR seat is higher than the PCX, also in length as well...
I might just stick to the MSX, considering I REALLY like that Bike,
just need to find someone where I can either part exchange,
or sell my PCX to someone...

Regarding the LeoVince Exhaust, could I use that on the MSX but obviously just buy the pipe for it?
or are the Exhausts on the MSX ok anyway?
probably use my Mirrors on the MSX as well.

The Chinese bikes such as sinnis, lexmoto, etc etc is the warranty is normally parts only so unless you take an extra warranty out that pays the labour if here's a problem it might be more cost effective to spend a bit more and get a better bike with a parts and labour warranty. I think KSR's do this and there not that much more expensive.

My rides are for pleasure only, as I work from home so now and then I go out for a ride, I don't go on long trips etc or back and forth work and so on.

The MT 125 is one of those bikes if I went to a manual I would buy. I really prefer it's look to the R-125 with all the fairings.

New MT125 £3800, far too much for a 125
You can get an almost unused second hand Z300 for the same or less.
Or a brand new Z250SL and £150 change plus almost double the power of the MT125

Yep the cost of those MT Bikes are a bit steep, as you said gn2, especially for a 125, fair enough they look nice but too expensive for that small CC....
going to wait until my second Service is done next week and then put the PCX up for sale,
put the stock Exhaust back on yesterday, went out on it today lol hated it! absolutely hated it, crazy on that Leo Vince Exhaust made it so 100% better (in my opinion),
and the fact that rattle p*ssed me off to the max with that stock back, went out for a ride and just wanted to get back home lol
will leave the Bike be now until the 20th, and then get it back and put the Leo Vince back on,
I think it was you gn2 that said the Leo Vince wont go on the MSX? which is fine as i'll sell the PCX with the Leo Vince on (might get more attention too)
but yeah... MT... looks nice, but costs too much :-(

I'd of stayed with the PCX if it wasn't doing my head in! really nice looking Bikes and very nippy...
just a lot going on personally and this Bike just stresses me out more,
and the fact I want to start getting into gears, had a think about it and in the future I want to be able to go for long rides,
also on the Motorway etc etc, so it's best to get a geared Bike I think and then do my full test with a manual
(instead of an automatic like I was going to do originally)
i've never been on a manual Bike, but have been told they're easy soooo will give it a go,
if I ONLY have the MSX then i'll obviously have to get used to it, as the Bike is my only transport,
and there isn't enough room in my garden for 2 Bikes....
and i'm a quick learner and I got the basics so it's basically just getting on it and trying it,
planning to ride to the nearest Car Park the evening I get it and ride around there on my own for a bit,
or get my neighbour (who got a big Yamaha Bike) to come with me...
again, never been on 1 to try, I drove a Car before around the block and got to 2nd gear lol...
so I should be fine on a small 125cc Bike.
