Ignition issue?

Hello, have a small issue that is random. Sometimes when trying to start the bike the key will turn fine to the on position where one can open the seat or the gas cap but not to do the final click to start the bike. it just doesn't want to move. Just lockes up but works freely from that position to the locking position then will randomly decide to work. Worried that one day it won't make the final click. Also noticed the keyhole lock plate does not work anymore when locking the steering when iI put the bike away at night. This doesn't bother me just the ignition itself.

No signs someone trying to tamper with it and the key isn't bent and still looks brand new. Curious on a lead to the issue or if i should just take it to the dealer. Thank you for reading.

Try some lock-ease or something similar. It could be as simple as some sticky tumblers.

Would a lithium spray be OK as well? Problem started after i got the bike back from the dealer from someone hitting the bike just hard enough to knock it over and it was garage while they had it of course. Just odd esp since it's still pretty new. I will try that tip though, thank you!

WD40 or Sonax works as well. Just spray some in.

lithium is a grease. You should never use grease in a lock. Wd40 will help remove moisture and add a little lube but it will soon dry out and you will be back to where you started. Try either a graphite powder or spray. any oil base lubricant will attract and hold dust and dirt particles and eventually jam the pins in your lock.

I can't remember what it was exactly, hopefully isnt lithium then. I do know it is a type of wd40 but more expensive then the regular version. I'll have to check when I get home

Yeah, what Stryder said...Stick to Graphite based solutions if you can. That's why I suggested Lock-Ease...it's graphite based.

I'll have to grab some of that then, stuff i have is wd40 specialist water resistant silicone lubricant. I just messed with it some more and it's perfectly fine up until trying to move past the open seat/gas cap key setting then it's litterally like a brick wall with a random occurrence of going far enough to where i can start the bike

Thinking back, I had a similar issue with my Kymco. have you tried it with your spare key? See, what happened in my situation was, the one key had a burr on it and wouldn't turn in the lock. My spare worked fine.

Tried the spare and same issue, if i go back to just before the area when it locks the steering then go back it will work on the 2nd or 3rd time normally. May have the dealer look at it when they get new kickstand and rear brake handle from the fall because the bike is 2 months old, and they had it for three weeks. Shouldn't be behaving like this.

Something I thought of.
Before my pcx was hit by another car hard just enough to knock it over at work i never had an issue with the key not wanting to turn to on after the key has been in the lock position as it doesn't really do it much if i just turn the bike off and take the key with me to run into the store quick. I Took it to the dealer the next time i drove it to get fixed up and don't remember the issue occurring but i was still upset about the bike being hit so it may have.

The night the bike fell the steering was locked and it fell on the left side. Could the fall with the locked steering have messed something up from the fall possibly? I just don't see the dealer have messing it up by just replacing some body panels is all and am trying to figure out the issue.

Fantasy.

After you've tried WD-40 and if it doesn't work. Wait a day or two and "paint" the key with a felt tip marker and see if/where the key is contacting any of the tumblers. It might just need a touch with a file.

I will give that a try, it's gotten a little better now that I've been able to use it again daily. Also learned if i unlock the bike, turn the key to off, wait a couple seconds, turn to the next turn wait another couple seconds it'll work every time so far which has been three times now. Either the wd 40 silicone spray is working or the bike doesnt like being rushed to have the key turned idk but i do thank everyone who has helped for the ideas!

I did after work... Took well over a minute once i got out of work to get the key to the on position to run. Gonna have to run to the dealer because i thint I'm going to have to have the ignition replaced not sure what else it would be.
