PCX150 Spark Plug Terminal?

Post by bchin3 »

Does the Spark Plug for the PCX150 supposed to have a terminal nut? My new Spark Plug came with a threaded stud at the top and no terminal nut or knob like you would find on typical plugs. When I took out the old Spark Plug, it had some sort of extender on the terminal it but it was loose. Please let me know: Do I install the new Spark Plug with just the threaded stud -or- do I attach the extender on it. Is the extender actually part of the plug wire that came out? Please advise...

It looks like to me that the connection inside the plug lead has come out as there isn't any extension piece on the plug as far as I know.

Surprised that nobody has got this, I not due for a new plug or I would know this one. Haven't really seen the use of a spark plug without a cap on it for years in any industry's motors.

I can put the piece back into the plug lead, but is it broken now?

The scooter runs with and without that piece, but I bought my scooter used so I didn't know if that piece was supposed to be in the lead. If the piece didn't fall out of the lead when I took out the old plug, I wouldn't have even noticed it. I'll clean it up before putting it back in for maximum conductivity.

It was strange for me that there wasn't a terminal knob on the plug that click snaps into the lead like my car's plugs do. It must not be as important for small engines.

Thanks

Don't know definitively if yours has a stock cap.
Question: Can you put the "extender" on and off the plug without screwing it on and off. That looks like a spring in the picture for surrounding the threads.

Look inside the plug cap what do you see? How snug is the fit when you put the whole thing back together?

I'm in the the "That is part of the plug cap" school, so long term you need a new plug cap.

Slightly later than the picture above. Motorbike guys used to put a button in the spark plug circuit with the HT wires in opposite holes, this created a gap which caused the energy to build up and jump that gap first and as such boosted the spark plug performance.

So if your assembly is a little loose it will still work.

Well if it runs it runs, sort of getting to the end of the storyline.

Pop an NGK plug cap on if you want.

It turns out my spark plug cap was cracked and the inner parts came out. I just ordered a new plug cap so hopefully my scooter will idle better.
