PCX servicing and/ or warranty

Post by reluctant »

Hi all, my 9 month old PCX125 has just had it's 2500 (2nd) service at the cost of around £148. When I picked up, I was told that they'd found a tight spot in the steering bearing which is causing it to "centre" ~ which I've checked and they are correct. They've asked me to bring it back another day to be put right, quoting up to 2 hours labour with a top estimate of £140 for this additional work.
What do people think? I understand servicing needs and wear and tear, but very surprised at how quickly this bearing has gone out of adjustment. And surprised that there seems to be no room for negotiation on this.
At this rate, servicing over three thousand miles will have cost me £378 which seems a lot!
Just seeking opinions please to see if I'm going nuts or not! :-)

If the scooter is under warranty there is absolutely no way you should be paying anything to have the bearings replaced.
Because that's what needs to happen.
If your description is correct and the steering settles in a fixed position from which there's resistance to move it out of, the bearing isn't out of adustment, its completely knackered.

Honda makes a big point to say they have very few exclusions on their first year or extended warranty. I would think that a part of the Chassis which is covered. As said your cost should be 0.

Agree with GN2. This should be a warranty issue and you shouldn't be paying.
Take it up with honda UK if the dealer isn't playing ball.

Update on this one..............
After going via Honda UK customer services and getting shoved from pillar to post, one person to the next, I finally got an e-mail back today saying, Yes, they'll cover it. And a letter/ref number to print off to give to a dealer of my choice to cover the cost of the work.
So, sorted at last (bar actually having the work done) but still pretty miffed with the dealer for having forced me into having to do all the running.
If any other people have problems, talk nicely and persistently to Honda and eventually (probably)......... they'll get you sorted :-)

I have the same problem with my 2014 honda PCX.
Although i am having a big problem with the warranty. I wanted to get my first service done but the honda dealer was busy and would be a couple of weeks I went to the Yamaha dealer who i bought my first PCX bike from who could do the service in a couple of days so i got it done there.

The steering bearing is worn and is now not covered by the warranty because the service was not done by Honda. 5 hours labour and the part is £274.

so i am a little miffed.

Going to get in contact with Honda Customer Service to see what they can do. I will let you know what happens

Not sure why you would think another mf would warranty your pcx? But no matter, since the part broke had nothing to do with the service done by the yam dealer, it should be covered. Contact the Honda distributor in your country/region

I had a coolant leak checked/fixed at First Line Motorcycles Southgate London (sort of SE England I suppose) and they said my bearing needed replacing as there was an issue swing from left to right - expected cost about £85 + VAT. I never had it done as I have found nothing wrong with it - moves/swings perfectly as far as I can see.

I was surprised that they instantly wanted to charge rather than pass it back to Honda - I wonder if it's something to do with not causing to much grief with Honda for free repairs and being a good 'dealer'.

So long as the service was done in accordance with the Honda service schedule, the warranty remains valid.
You do not have to have the servicing done by a Honda dealer.

Good chance he wanted to do both: charge you and then submit for warranty too. In the biz, its known as "double dipping" and is revealed all the time when the manufacturer does an annual warranty audit on the dealer.

No i do not think another mf would do the warranty work. I just got another mf to do the services. Its the Honda dealer that will not cover it now under warranty.
