Muffs

Does anyone use them? Recommended? Do they get in the way much? I'm a bit bothered that I'll lose control scratching my nose.

Just bought a pair from Amazon. I haven't used them yet but I've read many posts praising them. I did also just buy hand guards to help keep them up and off the brake levers, this is one concern I've heard raised. What finally clinched the decision for me was spending a winter week in NYC last year and seeing home made hand muffs on all the city delivery scooters. I figure in about two months I'll be able to offer some first hand knowledge.

Yes, I try to use muffs as often as possible - sometimes more than once a day if I'm lucky. Recommended? Absolutely. Do they get in the way? Never. If a muff is scratching your nose you're probably not doing it right

I had some really big muffs in the 70s but they've gone out of fashion now.

I use the Tucano Urbano muffs and I'm quit happy with them. But they're not perfect.....I'll be designing my own soon

Yes, I try to use muffs as often as possible - sometimes more than once a day if I'm lucky. Recommended? Absolutely. Do they get in the way? Never. If a muff is scratching your nose you're probably not doing it right

The OP has asked about the ones one fixes semi permanently to the handlebars to keep hands warm during winter season - which you guys don't get too much of down there.
The ones Greg was talking about are only fixed on one's handlebar down there for quite shorter periods during all seasons I guess.

I got the Tucano R363 ones from AJ Sutton. Can't get them to fit.

The rubber ends are supposed to pull onto the end weights using the end weight bolt, but it just pulls through the hole. The end weights are also too big to fit right into the end of the rubbers, so it's hard to get a cable tie to wrap around the weight, and then the rubber fouls the throttle grip.

They'll be going back tomorrow.

I bought something like these off ebay. They do work, but while I feel they don't interfere with the brakes when on, they do seem to make it very inconvenient to hit the bright lights (which is when I need them for my ride into work). Right now, I've been using them only when it's around 40°F. Otherwise, I'll just add another layer of knitted glove under my normal gloves and maybe those "hot hands" things.
Still, they're a cheap option for hand warmers. If I had the money, I'd spring for heated grips.

I'm hoping that my latest workaround will work. I've ordered some wider bar ends with a narrower diameter. The muffs will cable-tie properly onto these and I won't need to fix them with the screw.

Now I just hope the bar ends I've ordered are heavy enough.

I've been using them for over a month now with no trouble. It took me about a day to get used to the lap blanket, though.

I bought the wrong ones. I thought I could get a set of the Honda ones with the funny half-round bit on which fits into the end of the bar and cut off the half-round bit. I did, but the bolts are then too long and I got fed up of faffing. The bike is going in for a service on Friday and they're fitting heated grips so I might not bother with the muffs after all.

If anyone wants to make me an offer on the muffs then feel free....
