Big mpg is good but...
Say a US gallon of gas is $2.20 and you ride 4000 miles a year.
A 150cc scooter doing 110 mpg will cost you $91 a year in fuel.
Swap the 150cc scooter for a 300cc scooter giving 70mpg and your annual fuel cost is now $143
So the monthly additional fuel cost is just $4.33
A small price to pay for a lot more capability

The PCX is more than adequate and capable for it's purpose - an urban commuter made to ride at normal urban speeds for most of it's life - not riding wide open for most of it's life and still wanting more (if Honda saved money using parts that's a wise move - everyone would do the same unless it's high cost small sales your after).
People want to tinker and spend lots more on the bike, fine - but if you need to ride at speed for most of your travels, get a bigger and better bike as GN2 states. It will be more stable, have better braking, wider tyres, and probably be more comfortable.
Huh? Gas here is approaching a $1 a US gallon. They are buying gas guzzlers (giant trucks and SUVs) here like they are going out of style. Who cares about mileage?

Back at the ranch...my goal is to find a technical solution to squeeze a bit more speed or delay the rev limiter from kicking in so soon on my PCX. Great suggestions all. The second respondent to this thread provide a path toward my goal. I will see if I can replicate his success.
To date: I have an NCY variator, roller weights and belt. Waiting on a new left side gasket. It will be next weekend before I will be able to complete the service.

The NCY is the best choose to me. That is what I have. A positive side affect to this choose for my riding style is about a 10% better mpg. I do run the OEM rollers to get this mpg. I have used litter weights and it does get you off the line quicker but for me it took longer to get to top speed. It also dropped the mpg.
I have the NCY V/FP but 13 gr rollers. It does push the top speed up a lot relative to most other changes. I suspect if you use it to run faster most of the time your mileage will drop. It may also affect belt wear a bit.

You don't need to change the gasket if you open up the variator housing if you open it up without damaging the gasket. It helps if you start the operation with a clean bike. The gasket usually keeps attached to the variator cover. Just wipe it clean with shop towel and reinstall. I've opened and reinstalled mine several rims already and it is still as as new.
The entire install took me about 30 minutes and is documented with pictures on here somewhere. No new gaskets are needed. A way to hold the plate was really the only small challenge.

OOMPH achieved! This afternoon, I removed the stock variator and installed the new NCY variator. I used new, stock Honda weights in the variator.
I live .7 miles for I-4. I eased over to the Interstate to run my five miles west to the next exit. For the first three miles, there was no interference from the Rev Limiter. I was going 65 mph / 66 mph (a slight improvement). At about mile four, the PCX bumped up to 68 - 69 -70 mph. I will add that this run is essentially flat.
I exited at the St. Johns River exit and looped around and popped up eastbound on I-4. At the St Johns River bridge. There is a slight downgrade off the bridge. I bumped to 72 - 73 -74 mph and when the road flattened out again, I held 70 mph back to my exit.
I returned. I put away my tools. I kissed my wife!

If you have a tach. You shoot for full throttle acceleration to be right near 8000 rpm. I think mine is at 7950 rpm with the 13 gram weights. It sounds as if you were able to get past the rev limiter at 67 and up into the 70s so that is a good sign. A new belt helps too and a mid Givi windshield up from stock (the tall seems to have too much drag). Everything helps (lean over). When my belt was newer I could get to about 74 mph with a long enough run and no climb whatsoever. The light weights raises the rpm and improves low to mid acceleration.

ok, we have discussed this before, but one more time...stock belt or re enforced one? I plan on putting a NCY variation on my wife's bike soon. Her belt only has about 3K miles on it. Should I swap it out? Who makes the best one for the swap for a 2013 model 150?

First day commuting since the upgrade to NCY variator and face plate with stock belt and new stock roller weights. The PCX maintained a steady 72 / 73 mph (no rev limiter) when on the Interstate. I could not be happier with the results! (Before, the NCY upgrade, the PCX was hitting the rev limiter at 65 mph.). I appreciate everyone input! Jack & Joan
