What Would You do?

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I have been
on here,and then it was in the PCX section.
I truly love my 150. Nice scooter, handles well and
overall a great machine.
Here's my "huge" dilemma. There is a 2014 Forza for
sale near me with a whopping 200 miles on the odometer.
Apparently the owner is older and just doesn't ride it like
he intended. Anyway, that's his story!
Here's the guts of the story. He's got it listed on CL for
$3400. I think non-ABS.
Here's my question to all: What would you do?

If the PCX isn't cutting it and you can afford the Forza, go for it. Sounds like a good deal, especially if has ABS. Prices are low because gas is cheap.

I had my PCX for 2.5 years and only managed to put 3200 miles on it because it wasn't safe on the highways here in Texas. I've put 17,000 highway miles on the Forza in 2.5 years without a single issue. Still has the original belt and front tire. Runs as good as the day I rode it away from the dealer.

Forza also has enough storage space for my backpack, helmet and leather jacket.

I think it's a simple as if you're going to do a real interstate highways and 60 mph use a scooter, then the Forza is the answer. If you're just running around, back streets, neighborhoods and urban areas, the PCX works great. PCX is just not an interstate , longer distance machine.

Thanks for your comments. The PCX does well
but is somewhat light as anyone knows. Also,
it's value is going down. I'm just thinking out loud
and wondering if this is one of those deals that
I shouldn't pass up to get a heavier, more solid
scooter for a great price?

I think $3400.00 in a great price for a Forza with 200 miles on it. Go for it!

Made in Texas dude, aren't you a bit exaggerating? 27500km and you are still on factory belt and front tire? I've replaced the front tire@18000km! The rear one twice (10000km & 24000km)! The belt@24000km as Honda recommends. And i'm doing 1500km per month (4/5 on the highway).

Nope. Still original front tire and belt, but I too have replaced the rear tire twice (5400 and 13000 miles) I've purchased a belt and front tire. When it's time to replace the tire, I'll replace the belt. Honda recommends belt replacement at 16000 miles, so I'm not excessively over the recommendation. Not the only one on this forum to get more than 16000 miles on a front tire.

That's probably a thousand less than a dealer would ask....and they would tack on extras for paperwork. ..etc.
ABS is preferable. ...but unlikely at that price.
Make counteroffer high twos and be ready to buy.
Again, ABS is better. ..but that price is pretty good value for the scooter you will get.
Be sure it is where you will want to stop if wanting to go bigger.
CB500X used are not much more. Great bikes...bullet proof engines. HONDA.

I test rode the cb500 before the forza, the forza won hands down for me because of the comfort, the cb 500 is a great bike though. Both exellent machines you just need to decide bike or scoot .

Question:

DioTiAma, why do you say not to buy it if it's non-ABS? Is that because you (correctly) believe that ABS is safer, or is it for some mechanical reason?

Related question, though not meant to derail the thread: Could it be a failure of design of the ABS that's causing the low-mileage rear brake pad replacement issues that some Forza owners have reported?

The front caliper has three pistons. The outer ones work off the front brake lever. The middle one works off the rear brake lever, along with the rear brake.

No.
The pad wear is caused by bad caliper design and placement.

ABS is safer Johnny. If you ever fell from a bike with NO ABS while braking hard, well, it is safer having one from every angle you see it (in Europe, starting this year, scooters with bigger displacement than 125cc MUST have)! Paul, front caliper has two pistons, not three. One is activated while pressing the left lever along with the single piston of the rear caliper. Both pistons are activated when braking only with the right lever. And Dave, just clean the area more often (brake cleaner, grease on the pins -43235-HP1-006 & 45131-ML7-921- & then washing). I changed my rear brake pads after 24000km. Have a nice day guys.

Hey DioTiAma,

I totally agree with you about ABS. I've fallen off of bikes more than once because of rear wheel lockup back in the days before ABS, and the ABS on my large BMW absolutely saved my life a few years ago on the LBJ Freeway in Dallas. Without ABS we would not be talking today, period. I'll tell that story to anyone who doesn't know what ABS does anytime.

But we all know that ABS creates mechanical and electronic problems on some bikes, and I wondered if the Forza was one of them. Mine is non-ABS, so I was just interested if you'd had any service issues with yours.
