I like riding feet up out of town but felt I was lying back on my arms. Tiring after a few miles. Had a look at what was available. Being short the need was for a rest in front of the hump. Nothing out their that was quick on/off, didn't involve cutting the seat or mounting fixed brackets. Not to mention ridiculous sums of money for what is basically a shaped cushion!
So. . . .

Re: Homemade backrest
Nice backrest. By the way, what is that angled post on the side? How is it connected?

Re: Homemade backrest
Hi Mel, Tube is for carrying my fly rods. Side panel has a hole for mounting tax disc which is now redundant this side of pond, so that provides lower mount, upper mount I drilled the rear rack and used a short section alloy flat bar to mount tube.

Re: Homemade backrest
Thanks guys. For the backrest I laminated two thin kitchen cutting mats in a curve then three thicknesses of foam from an old camping mat. Sewed up a cover from a charity shop leather coat. Fitted a loop either side to take an adjustable webbing strap to go under seat. Job done. Total cost less than 8 pounds or 12 dollars.
