I am sure that you are one of the reasons why I am buying the NCY setup Homie. I read through so many posts collecting info, and I know that I read lots of your posts.
Are you currently using the NCY products, and if so how long and how is everything holding up?

Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
There are several new members looking at the NCY setup for PCX. I understand the need for a little more pep and speed on the little Honda. I want to assure you the tools and skill to swap out the stock parts is easy and fun if you are any kind of wrench at all. Yes you will feel decent acceleration and confirm the better mph immediately. You will not get the better fuel mpg with this vario setup. It will not damage or hurt your investment in any way unless you don't put something back properly or you pay no attention to the torque specs for the Jesus nut. If that little nut backs off because you did not secure it... OH JESUS! Every thing can be put back exactly as it was anytime you choose and no additional parts or gaskets are needed in the process. You will need to take that Jesus nut off with a impact wrench, but don't use it to replace it use a torque wrench please, barrow these two tools if you must.
YT has some crazy's doing this the wrong way without proper tools and starting the engine with the cover off while wearing loose strings on a hoodie. These are belts and pulley's people... be safe. I have experienced no degree of deterioration of the NCY products in riding but I haven't been back inside to inspect closer yet. This spring I will go back in and give detailed 'how to video' as well and we will all see for ourselves.

Oh and I will order this tool to hold things in place when torquing down the bolt... just be easier

btw I'm not against sliders and other performance vario kits for scooters, I just have no experience so far with anything other than what I documented with NCY 12 & 13gm rollers and their drive face etc. 13 being KING in the end.

Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
Very good find on the tool to keep everything from spinning while trying to tighten bolts on the variator and clutch.
My parts just came in today but I will not do the install for a few more weeks. I did get the 13G rollers because of everyone saying they are the best fit for our scoot.
Are you still running the stock and original belt with your variator setup?

yes I am and I wouldn't mess with the clutch, you'll be back in there at 7k per the SM looking for clutch shoe glazing anyway. A condition that effects a rare few for reasons unrelated to vario mods and I don't fully understand. Might be the owners riding habits or weather conditions that create a shellac like substance.txpcx13 wrote:Are you still running the stock and original belt with your variator setup?
You guys are making me want to do a vid on the whole process now.... stop it. I want to ride! Just got back from a good long cruise in my 50 degree day here in Chicagoland. Man when coming off a bigger bike the scooter feels crazy FUN and comfortable in traffic. I can relax and crank the music whilst navigating the idiots far better on a scooter. The scooter is still my favorite day on the road

Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
You have to have gloves to ride at that temp. I scooted up to Walmart the other night and even though I had on my running gloves my hands were frozen after my 20 minute round trip.
Keep scooting and enjoying yourself, no need to post a video. I enjoy turning a wrench and learning about my vehicle so I will get everything changed out all at the same time.
Honestly, the reason I am waiting is because I am going to check my valve clearance/adjustment(which I am dreading because of the 2 hours it takes to remove parts).
When I get all the panels off I will do everything all at once : ) Hopefully the easy way

Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
Here is a picture so people can see what they would be getting if they choose to go with the rollers and NCY.
I chose these rollers because of availability in USA, and because they work with the aftermarket pulley/drive face. I want both quicker acceleration when needed and higher top speed when needed. The stock PCX 150 is good enough 90% of the time. I am adding these for the times I might need to get on the highway and go 65mph and provide a little more getty-up off the line.

This is the case for all variator installs. All are reversible.homie wrote:I want to assure you the tools and skill to swap out the stock parts is easy and fun if you are any kind of wrench at all. Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
That's why you are on the whisperer list
yea those devices would work fine. We will be examining the NCY parts with 3500 miles on them. Rollers will be measured for wear and compared to a new set. The golden teflon ramps will be inspected closely and anything else in the variator you people want to see or measure. I will make an easy cadence step by step access video so as to give assistance to those considering the installation of performance vario kits.

Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
Waiting on a new set of 13g's just in case there is noticeable roller wear or flat spots. In the mean time I will fashion my own drive face tool for giggles like waspmike did. I think what we will find is adequate teflon remaining on the ramps and no flat spots on the rollers. Maybe some diameter difference and at that point I will put in a new set since I'm in there anyway.txpcx13 wrote:looking forward to the next video : )
Did you purchase the exact same set of rollers because there are a couple choices on amazon now with NCY 13gm rollers. Lets be sure we are (apples to apples) and not something different.

Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
I would think one has to be careful because not all weight manufactures use the same plastic. So they won't all wear the same. Also NYC suits certain rider requirements but it may not suit all.

Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
Installed everything today. Not sure if I am a big fan yet, but I only road for a few minutes (literally not more than 3 minutes).
What I noticed, revs a lot quicker... and you can feel it with quicker acceleration, but you can also hear it with higher revs.
Most definitely does not feel the same as stock. I liked the way it was driving before(stock), so the new feel is different.
I will drive it for a few days and get back with a better review.
Along with the variator and rollers, I also changed to an iridium spark plug and fresh coolant today.

Good job man! The experience of tooling your own bike and a careful honest assessment of the aftermarket products will be appreciated. There is a nice little tachometer for 50 bucks that requires little effort to install if you like I can link you. It will help you see the RPM differences easily.

Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
Wow..... talk about a cluster f@#k : )
#1 it is all my fault so please learn from my mistake. I got everything changed and taken off and tightened the 22mm bolt on the variator drive shaft "by hand" (no variator tool) DO NOT DO THIS
I was scared to damage the fins on the variator with my homemade tool and completely messed up the whole thing.
Long story short I am ordering all new NCY parts and I wanted to know what tool people are using to tighten the NCY variator/face with because there are no holes to insert the screws or male parts into.

Re: Rollers vs Sliders ? Which is better
Thanks Homie, I always try to do the work myself and learn more about my vehicle. I find it fun and therapeutic working on the PCX and my Civic. So as you can see I did not buy a real tool, and I was scared that my make shift tools would damage the fins when I was tightening it up.homie wrote:Good job man! You are capable of managing the 55 mph traffic now with just a enough beyond that to pass a garbage truck on the freeway.

I am ready for install #2, and it was driving well for a few minutes until I spun everything off and made a homemade grenade out of NCY parts

Ended up ordering my parts from a different place and almost jumped on some rear shocks when I saw the price.
What I ordered(again) NCY rollers 13g, golden variator, and drive face. http://enviromoto.ecrater.com/
I am going to hold off on the shocks until I really need them but I am going to order a Givi Rear Top Case "rack" and install it while I am deciding which case I want.

Please get a torque wrench and hold the fins anyway you can. I will check the torque value but its not much... less than 50 lbs. I have a scar on my lower lip from a centrifugal clutch housing that I forgot to put the 'C' clip back on my mini bike as a kid. Those can be little grenades
