Post by mjoa68 »

Just waiting for the dealer to deliver my brand new 2014 Forza 300 (clearance priced!) and thought I'd say hello here. I've been researching this bike for a while and have found some great info in these forums that helped me make my decision to pull the trigger. I also hope to do some basic part swapping mods down the road so might be back with more questions, or just to post some pics of my ride. :D

Now just to wait two more weeks for the thing to get here...

Hi MJOA and welcome to the forum. Good folks here and they're ready to help and share.

I do have one suggestion for you and that is to ask your dealer before you pick up the scooter if they've done the recall on the fuel pump. This recall has been out for a year or so and supposedly all the dealers who had these leftover 2014s in stock were authorized by Honda to do the recall repair before delivery to the eventual buyers. (This according to the large dealership who sold me my 2014 last winter). My dealer said they had already done it, so I'm assuming for the time being that it's been taken care of.

As far as I know, that's the only recall on the 2014s. There are some other minor service issues (rear disc pads for one) that aren't recall items but all in all the Forza seems to be a great bike, and most of the folks on here seem happy with theirs. I think mine's great.

Hi Johnny, thanks for your reply and very much thanks for that tip! I hadn't even thought to search for recalls online. Just did now and came up with the one you mention and another:
(These are on the Transport Canada site but I'm assuming you would find similar in the US or on other continents)
http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/7/V ... archResult
http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/7/V ... archResult

Now I'm VERY glad I stopped in to say hi here! As the dealer is still waiting to get the bike in their shop and hasn't even done the initial setup you can bet I will be asking them for confirmation that both of these have been done before I pick it up.

Again, thanks VERY much for the tip!

Hi WhiteNoise, thanks for taking the time to reply. I did use a 50cc scooter for a couple of years but eventually sold it as it just wasn't powerful enough. That was about two years ago and ever since I've been wanting something more substantial. Been thinking about the Forza and a couple other options for a long time now and finally decided to pull the trigger. So my riding experience is very limited indeed.

While you're waiting for your Forza to arrive, continue browsing and reading on our forums.
Also please consider taking a motorcycle course (MSF) if you haven't done so already.
Like to read? There are some very good books available....my favorite as well as many other bikers is "Proficient Motorcycling" by David L. Hough. Here's a link to where I bought mine (years ago):
Trust me, you'll enjoy it and you'll learn a lot too ;)

Thanks for the suggestions WhieNoise. Yup, I rode that 50cc scooter to work every day for two years so I have the essential gear I need to get started. Armoured riding jacket, summer and winter riding gloves, rain pants, and of course a couple of helmets. I still don't have a full face helmet so that is first on my list for sure. I don't plan on riding on the highway without one. Down the road I'd like to get a convertible all season riding jacket but that will have to wait a bit. Mine has a zip out liner so I just tough it out as is during the hot weather, which we don't really get here much...

I'm going to give the book a try. Looks like a well reviewed classic.

Welcome, I was looking at a few 2014 Models although I want 2015 or newer. It seems 2014 models had a bunch of recalls.

I am over in Hope, BC I have never ever seen another Forza. I don't think many have been sold in Canada.

I would suggest reading every post on this site. There is a lot of good information and also a little bs so read wisely.

I had a 50cc Yamaha BWS and then a useless Geely 150cc. I have had a series of other motorcycles over the years. At 56 I like the Forza right now. Who knows what I will have tomorrow?

Actually, tomorrow I go to see a doctor about cancer and that is way more scary than any motorcycle ever will be. But I intend to ignore the doctors anyway and just ride forever.

Hi davenowherejones! Glad to see someone else in BC is riding a Forza! I'm in Victoria and I've never seen one on the street here, although the local dealer just sold three. I know that because once I decided to buy one the stock they had was all gone! Managed to find one in Nanaimo so that's the one I'm currently waiting on.

This will be my first step up from a 50cc myself. I had a Yamaha C3 which was lots of fun and saved me tons in gas on my commute to work, but it was just too small for me to use practically for any serious length of time. I've been wanting a "real" scooter ever since I had that one though. (And ever since my GF bought an Aprilia Sportcity 300!)

Interestingly enough, I was just talking about Hope earlier today. I was describing the Othello Tunnels to a friend. Love that place, been there twice.

Wishing you all the best of luck at your Dr. visit tomorrow. Either way I think you have a good plan :)

I'm actually entertaining the idea of a road trip come the summer of 2017, once I've got more experience riding. One route I'm considering is Hwy 3 since I've been along there once and have wanted to take another trip to Christina Lake ever since. Just beautiful through there. So who knows, if I actually end up that way maybe we can meet up for a ride? :D
