Passed my test at last
Finally got round to doing my big bike test and passed thankfully. I did it on a Yamaha mt07, which I thought was quite a nice bike.
Not having ridden anything over 125 and a scooter I found the transition to a big clutch and gear bike a bit difficult at first so I bought a cheap 125 to practice on and that really helped.
The module 1 test was reasonably easy and the module 2 out on the road wasn't as bad as I expected but not perfect.
I haven't decided what to do bikewise yet but I'm keeping the PCX as its perfect for going to work and back.

Thanks. I thought it was time to get my finger out and get it done. £600 for the course though but no more CBT's or L plates.

Congratulations, must get around to it myself sometime. Who did you go with in Edinburgh ? I've always done my CBT's up in Dunfermline as it's much cheaper, but that might not be practical for lessons & tests etc.

City school. That are at seafield. They get access to the test center MOD 1 area for practice so that's a big help. John the instructor is very good.

Getting a full A licence saves you money long term and doing it in one hit is the best way.Alibally wrote:£600 for the course though but no more CBT's or L plates.
You can also carry a passenger now but check your insurance first.

I'll leave the pillion passengers for now. Your right about the insurance though. It makes a difference to the policy.

Do you mean you've had your licence for two months, or you are going to take it in two months?

I'm not sure what to get if anything at the moment. I'm not sure what's good or bad really. I need to do some research. I don't suppose there's any hurry.

I'm partial to the KTM Duke 390, Hondas CB500F & CB650F and the Kwaka Vulcan S (only cruiser I like). All ABS bikes, too.

Re: Passed my test at last
Anyone know what a nc750s is like. Not the DTC the manual version. I like the idea of a bit of storage in a bike.

Re: Passed my test at last
Had one on loan for a while last year, a white manual one.
I think its a really good bike and one of very few bikes I would seriously consider buying.
Really impressed with how much smoother the 750 engine is compared to the previous 700.
My XL HJC IS17 helmet fitted in the storage bin, add a top box and it would have as much storage as a Forza.
There's brand new ones advertised for £4800 on BikeTrader.
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 6174398900
The older one has the advantage of a full stainless exhaust system.
Servicing is every 8,000 miles or annually with valve clearance checks at 16,000 miles and its screw and locknut adjusters.
The instruments are fully digital and easy to read.
It lollops along at low revs and is very relaxing at 70, many times I caught myself riding along in fourth when I could have changed up to sixth.
I found the riding position of the S far more comfortable than the X
The NC has the H.I.S.S. immobiliser and DataTag so insurance is cheaper.
Only minus points are 1: chain drive (but add a Scott or Tutoro oiler and much of the hassle is removed)
And 2: opening the seat up with the key to get at the fuel tank is a bit of a p.i.t.a. compared to the push button on a PCX/Forza.
The young bucks might point and laugh at the NC and say its boring and slow and an auld mannie's bike.
Compared to a 600/1000 head down arse up road race screamer they're absolutely right and that's largely why its so damn good.
