Why no Iridium in the 2014 Forza?
I was surprised to see that Honda had not fitted my 2014 Forza with an Iridium spark plug.
Denso and NGK both make great Iridiums - surely they make one which is a suitable alternate for the Forza?
A lot of new Japanese autos have them fitted OEM.

Its a cheaply made basic scooter, not a top end luxury dream machine.

What would the Iridium gain you? Some say they felt their bike rode better after swapping out, others say they cannot tell the difference. If the engine is efficient and ECU controlled, and the cheaper but reliable standard spark plug is working, will the more expensive one make that much difference?

Re: Why no Iridium in the 2014 Forza?
Iridium plugs aren't magic, they were developed to extend the service interval....2-3 times the normal plug replacement cycle.
If you're changing the plug out every 8000 miles (as the service manual suggests) you would most likely gain nothing.

Not to be contrary - but an Iridium spark plug is not a split-fire or some goofy gadget.iceman wrote:What would the Iridium gain you? Denso and NGK make them. I trust those folks to make a good plug, and if they say it is a better plug in many ways - I'll try one in my scooter.
I did have to special order one for my other scooter.
Took 24hrs and cost $7.27
Were things better inside my scooter engine with the Iridium spark plug?
I think I'll just say this: it did not run any worse.
Perhaps the reason Honda did not fit one in the Forza is because NGK has not made an Iridium plug for the engine - not that I can find, anyway.
If one comes along - my experience is that it will be a very inexpensive improved part for my scooter.

I know its a different engine but in my honda c 90 cub Ive a NGK iridium plug, it definatley runs better than a standard NGK plug. Its not just me the UK owners club recommend them.

Looks like Toyota took a Suzuki Wagon R and stuck it in an enlarger.

Wot is a Scion xB?
From Toyota's young design house in SoCal.
Nothing posh - just a pretty neat vehicle & a well kept secret.
Almost as rare as scooters....

Re: Why no Iridium in the 2014 Forza?
I use the Iridium spark plugs in a thunderstorm V-twin engine with no complaints except you never handle them like old school by gaping or wedging anything between the center and ground electrodes. The Iridium tipped electrode is fragile, tiny and hard to inspect. I put them for temperature benefit but honestly it's hard to tell the difference. I have no plans to use one on a Honda but i'm sure someone in here has.

The LMAR8A-9 (NGK?) plug cost me $18.04 on eBay Canada and $38.73 from my local dealer in Chilliwack, BC. Something tells me I should shop around and order one in advance. But where?

Last I looked NGK does not make the Forza plug in an Iridium version.
The standard plug is weird enough ......not readily avail. from most parts shops.
My spares had to come from the U.K....which in itself is another mystery.

A plug "upgrade" from stock falls in the same category as "undercoating", Marvel Mystery Oil (and other snake-oils), extended warranties, "high-moly" (twice the price) synthetic oil, nitrogen (or helium) tire air, etc.fish wrote:I was surprised to see that Honda had not fitted my 2014 Forza with an Iridium spark plug.

Actually, on small engines like these scoots - even a little better spark is noticeable.pullin_gs wrote:A plug "upgrade" from stock falls in the same category as "undercoating", Marvel Mystery Oil (and other snake-oils), extended warranties, "high-moly" (twice the price) synthetic oil, nitrogen (or helium) tire air, etc.fish wrote:I was surprised to see that Honda had not fitted my 2014 Forza with an Iridium spark plug.

Worked great to smooth & stabilize the idle at stop lights on my new Kymco, and did the same on my new Burgman. A more stable idle, in heavy traffic, at a stop light - is nice.
These things are made by Denso and NGK - so they are not mystery marvel oil.
Take 7 bucks and give one a try in your scooter.
