2013 LED Flasher Relay

Well, it arrived today.

A couple of weeks ago, I contacted a couple of Honda dealers out of my area, to inquire about LED compliant Flasher Relays. I got some really good info from one mechanic who was filling in in the parts department of one dealer in another state. I filled him in on what I was wanting to do, namely install turn signals with LED bulbs in the headlight assembly of a 2013 PCX 150. He thought that was pretty good, and he told me the exact specifications I had to have in order to make a drop-in relay work with LED turn signal bulbs. Honda, and the associated parts departments use generic relays for stock machines, and don't generally release that information. He told me that I wouldn't find it in a service manual, other than a part number, but that any number of manufacturers made suitable relays that would work in my application to eliminate hyperflash.

At his suggestion, I went to the Webike! Japan website, inquired about flasher relays, and in an email exchange, narrowed down which one of the ones they offered for sale that would work in my application. They wanted something like $17 USD for the part, so I decided to shop around, being the frugal cheapskate that I am. I found the exact same specifications on Banggood, ordered it, paid $1.99 USD for it, and it arrived today. Now, to be honest, I won't have any way to actually test it without hooking up an LED bulb to an existing stalk turn signal, but I do have one of the major parts necessary to go forward with this mod.

I also figured out what to do with the stalk-mounted turn signals on the front. I'm in the process of acquiring a set of 15W CREE LED trail/driving light spots. I'm going to design up a bracket to interface between the mounting of the stalk turn signal in the front, and the base of the light. So, I'll have spots that are mounted on the front of the bike, not on the forks! We'll see how that goes.

I would like to get some of these things done soon, because in a couple of months I'll be riding home in the dark, and the more I can improve my lighting, the safer I'll be.

I just wired in a resistor on each stalk. Not hard to do..Walmart sells the resistors 8.95 for 4 I think

The reason that I put my LED Cree lights on the fork instead of the body of the bike is because you turn your lights where you want to go and the rest of the body eventually follows. I would not want to go into a curve at night with my lights shining straight ahead instead of into the curve.

Well, that's true, Mel. But the headlights don't move, and putting them on the fork would negate the fun I'm going to have designing the mounting, and then having it made at school... Have to have some fun, don't I?

I thought about that, but I'm not all that interested in creating a minimum of eight more possible points of failure in my wiring, given that I'm no electrical expert.

At a bare minimum, four resistors (which also add unnecessary and unwanted heat inside plastics) have two potential points of failure, one on each end where a connection has to be made. Multiply that by four, and there you are.

It's bad enough that I'm already going to be adding in extra connections for my aux driving lights, and my DRLs too.
