Scooter night ride vlog

Post by honkerman »

I've been experimenting with night time moto vlogging. It seems my helmet cam works well at night. I get a bit hung up on one of my soap box subjects, but hope you enjoy the video.

Do you have extra lights for night time driving or are those the ones that came on the bike originally? My lights are so dim at night that I had to add some extra LED driving lights.

They are the originals. They're a huge step up from the lights on my previous machine.

My third night vlog is here. I do get into a few topics that are taboo on this forum, so if you wish to discuss them, please do so in the comments on the video, not on this forum.

Thanks kindly,

FYI for those with Facebook, I have a page there now too. Just search for Scootin' Fool.

I just added some little led lights to my bike that I consider daytime running lights (DRL) because they are not that powerful but do make my bike more visible. For night riding I have some nice LED lights on each side of the front wheel, plus I have 4 mini-strobe lights. This picture should give you an idea or two for your bike.

Got a link to where you got those Mel? I'll probably stick them inside the lower headlight lens, but they are exactly what I'm looking for

I bought them on Amazon but they Really no longer available. However, if you are planning on putting the INSIDE the lower lens area, you might consider these. They are small and look like you could easily keep them in place. Thanks to Dave I found some double sided tape that is suppose to be able to hold automotive parts in place, such as trim. It works well done could probably be used to hold whatever you use as a backing to hold the lights in place. I will leave all of that up to you though. Amazon has lots of led lights for motorcycles and even at some that you can adapt.

Where did you tie them in electrically? I don't want to tap into something that may rob them of power.

You have two choices when it comes to added lights. The first is the white wire that is power to the low beam. That way the additional lights will work when the bike is running, just like the headlights. The second possible choice is a direct connection to the battery. I chose this route because if a fuse blows you are in the dark trying to get home. I have a switch on the handlebar for spot lights down by my wheels. They hook to the battery. I also have a three position switch above the fuel door. It has ON-OFF-ON. The top ON is for DLR and is marked as such. The bottom ON is for the 4 strobe lights I have installed, and it is marked STROBE. These two get power from my accessories outlet that I installed on the upper left of the fuel door panel. That has a direct connection to the battery as well, with a builtin fuse.

Great lights ideas. Hope everyone doesn't mind if I use those ideas. Have been in the dark more than I thought lately and have found the stock headlights a little dim. Is there enough power to run extra lights with no problem?

LEDs draw very little power. A few pods, bulbs, or strips will have a negligible effect.

Here are pictures of my bike with just the original lights and the Daytime Running Lights, and then one with the added spot lights that are on each side of the front tire. As you can see, the add on lights make all the difference when riding at night....and yes, the circuit can handle LED lights. They have very little draw.

Just uploaded the most recent installment. Please note, this is not meant to be political, but rather to bring awareness to how poorly Pennsylvania (in particular), compensates those who care for the developmentally and intellectually disabled.

Can you go on a dark road and turn on just your factory lights/high beams, then turn on your other lights to compare?
