Engine oil

I'm reading the manual and it says to check the oil daily, before riding. Does everyone do this?

Engine Oil Level Check
Check the engine oil level each day before riding the scooter.
The level must be maintained between the upper (1) and lower (2) level marks on the oil fill cap/dipstick ( 3 ).
1. Start the engine and let it idle for 3-5
minutes.
2. Stop the engine and put the scooter on its
center stand on level ground.
3. After 2-3 minutes, remove the oil fill
cap/dipstick, wipe it clean, and reinsert the oil fill cap/dipstick without screwing it in. Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick. The oil level should be between the upper and lower level marks on the oil fill cap/ dipstick.
4.If required, add the specified oil (see page 97 ) up to the upper level mark. Do not overfill.

Once you have checked the oil, and put a couple miles on it , and checked the oil again, and then not seen any blue smoke or residue on the floor, you don't have to check it every time. That's ridiculous. I check mine once a month , it doesn't move.

Manufacturer CYA... I noticed this statement in every motorcycle SM I buy. I guess if you lose your oil, either by prank, theft or puncture and seize the motor you have no warranty coverage LOL.

True, but my car has an oil light on the dash. Does the newer PCX have oil indicator lights in the dash? I'm reading the 2010 manual as that's the only one I could find online.

The manual also states check loads of things on the bike before every ride, use MB oil such as ProHonda (not needed, not easy to get outside the US, total overkill as any good 4T fully synth oil will be %100 ok!), check the valves every service (yeah right, most dealers will not do that unless asked to and you pay for it outside of normal service costs).

Check the oil every week or so from new to check the bike is not leaking oil or burning oil, every 1-3 months after that and you will be fine. As others stated, if your bike loses lots of oil over a short time you should be able to spot it esp. parked at home - if there is no puddle or drips on the floor then the bike is not leaking oil!

Thanks....exactly what I wanted/needed to hear....common sense.

I'd like to ask what others do regularly to ensure the safe operation of their bike, since the manual seems to be written to help Honda get out of any warranty work if something happens lol.

Probably the biggest thing that you can do is a spot check before every ride of your tire pressure. If a tire Is soft/flat and you jumpon the bike and just take off , you could have bad consequences, the bike might not turn correctly and behave erratically. I use a fobobike tire pressure monitoring system from Amazon, tells me the pressure of both tires through my Smart phone, works perfect.
