Variator Slider or Roller Confusion

Post by Rick54 »

Been watching some YouTube videos on upgrading the PCX150 variator system. Many folks seem to prefer the 13g. roller. Then I'm seeing some mention of Sliders. Could someone clear-up the confusion for me on when one uses sliders and when one uses rollers?

If you are only upgrading the rollers/sliders, the sliders are preferable to the rollers. However, if you upgrade the variator to a NCY (as well as the NCY drive face) , you can not use sliders because of the Teflon coating on the variator. With that setup it is preferred that you use the NCY 13 gram rollers.

That is about all that I know about sliders.

Thank you Mel for the clarification. Perhaps after I put some time on my new PCX I might get that "tinkering" bug also. Seems tinkering always involves the exhaust, variator, and shocks, not necessarily in that order. Perhaps when that time comes, I may call on you for some suggestions/clarifications on those modifications.

Here's the way I see it, having had sliders and rollers, beside the stock rollers. The sliders allow a standard variator like what comes in the Honda to push out a little bit farther toward the edge so you get extended performance. However if the variator you're using such as the NCY, as said above, is set to use rollers, then rollers it is. I use the NCY variator and rollers. It made a significant difference. However I also got a good hole shot performance increase with just 13G Dr. Pulley sliders, on the stock variator for over a year.
