Spark plug
What is the difference between a LMAR8A-9 and a -9S NGK spark plug? And can you prove your reply?
There is a big dollar difference.
Honda says change plugs every 12,800 km but NGK says they last 48,000 km (30,000 miles).
Why the big difference?

Re: Spark plug
One of the forums mentions that the S has a different gasket, and looking closely at the pics I think I can confirm that.
https://fz07.org/thread/8818/spark-plug-ngk-lmar8a-9s/
"The one with the part number which ends with an S actually has a special gasket on it. It is made for a specific Honda motor."
If you examine the pic of the threads and gasket for each, the S has a different gasket, the non S is more tapered.

I don't see a price difference on the NGK site, but one was on national backorder so actual prices may be inflated.

Re: Spark plug
This makes me think I should go out to my tool box and pull out all of the new Forza bits which I still have.
Bought my spare plugs from the UK, as none found here.
Have new airfilters, plugs, o filter, exhaust gasket, etc.
Might put it altogether as a packet for sale here, if there is any interest?
Silly to keep the stuff.
Tried ebay once - no takers.

Re: Spark plug
I recently bought a NGK LMAR8BI-9 (91909) Laser Iridium Premium spark plug.
People say these things last forever. How long is forever?
My 2014 Honda Forza 300 has 169,114 km (105,082 miles) on it.
I have 62 hard years on me. Maybe cancer, waiting for results.
I figure this iridium spark plug may be the last one I ever need.

Re: Spark plug
davenowherejones .. That's a lot of miles on a bike, and a lot of seat time to get it there. I have 5 years on you, and while we're not young pups anymore... maybe we still have enough miles left on us for you to wear out that spark plug, and me another set or 2 of tires... We'll hope so.
Fingers crossed and meditative OMs for good test results. Hang in there.

Re: Spark plug
Still waiting on the cancer results. I am in pain most days but Fuck Cancer.
I installed the iridium spark plug today. I doubt if I can keep the Forza going for another 100,000 km but I bet the spark plug will still be useable from what I have read.
So it will probably be MY last spark plug for the Forza.

Re: Spark plug
Asked ngk.com (aka sparkplugs.com) vendor about this ... their answer: "The only difference is the the "S" on part number 6817 LMAR8A-9S stands for special gasket. Usually the means the gasket is made of stainless steel. The NGK-4313 LMAR8A-9 plugs just have the standard plated steel gasketCube wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 2:44 am One of the forums mentions that the S has a different gasket, and looking closely at the pics I think I can confirm that.

Re: Spark plug
I put the iridium plug in my Forza this summer, works GREAT. I installed them in my Silver Wing at 8000 miles and it now has nearly 25K on it. I am sold on the iridium plugs and don't expect to have to replace them anytime soon
