Saybrook Fort Site (Old Saybrook Colony, CT, USA)

Post by Old Grinner »

The following pictures, taken today, show the general area of the original Old Saybrook Fort site. It's just down the road from the original site of Yale University . . . known as the "Collegiate School" long ago. Commonly referred to as "Saybrook Point" it has a well attended Inn, Marina and Mini Golf Course plus additional town park area.

This shows the northeast edge of the fort area and sloping grade of what's left of the land. Much of the ground was excavated years ago when a railway for trolley cars existed. Now quite grown in, there was once water access behind the tree cover for shallow draft boats. It makes a great hill for kids to slide on during the Winter. :D

A couple of Winter season pics facing east towards the river from the fort area and if you look carefully you can see some old wheels on the ground from the days of the trolley cars.
