New guy here

Hi all. I recently bought a 2019 PCX 150 from my local shop. I am really surprised at how much I enjoy riding it around the back roads and in the town where I live in north east U.S. I started riding in the 80's (I'm an old guy) on Suzuki 650's. I went many years without a bike, and then a few years ago, I bought a used Suzuki Bandit 1250. I got the big bike because I thought I needed it to ride two up with my wife. Problem is, I never felt comfortable on that bike, and with my wife on it, it felt top heavy, even though she's a small person.

I've taken her out on the PCX twice now, and I'm very pleased with how the little scooter handles the extra weight. It's stable, handles well and still has good acceleration. This makes me happy because I got it to carry on the back of our motorhome as we travel, giving us a mode of transport when we park.

I bought a good rack for the back of the motorhome. I have done one test run with it on the rack and all went well. I was wondering if anyone here has experience carrying scooters on trailers or racks-would welcome your advice.

welcome aboard.....Im a newbie her too and learning all that is scooters ...I will be watching your posts and this subject as I have just purchased a very low mileage 2018 125cc PCX ( 120 MILES ) for use on a motorhome ( to be purchased in the spring )

Thanks. We debated the subject for a long time before making the purchase. We also considered towing a car, but felt it would alter our travel style. I have high hopes for the PCX as a travel companion.

Hi Welcome,
I have driven with my smaller scooter, Honda Ruckus, on a rack with no troubles at all. Good distances too. But so far I have only used my utility trailer for the PCX. I just figured since I have the trailer I might as well use it. The rack obviously does keep the bike nice and close to the car so it is more maneuverable in parking lots. At some point I will try to PCX on the rack.

Hi, thanks. When you tie down the scooter, do find that the small amount of suspension travel allows you to make it secure enough? My understanding is that one should compress the fork only about half way, which is less than 1.5 inches. That's not much. My rack has a fork chock and I will tie down the rear as well so I'm hoping that will suffice.

Thanks for that link. It confirms that most of what I'm doing is good. It also confirms that I'm engaging in a bit of overkill. Wrapping the strap around the grips is very clever-I probably wouldn't have thought of that. I'm using a canyon dancer which accomplish the same thing, but at a higher cost.

Welcome from another oldie. I’ve been hauling a scooter for the past eight or so years. Sometimes in the back of a pickup truck but more recently on a hitch mounted carrier. I’ve travelled to Florida from Wisconsin, 1350 miles each way with no problems.

I also just purchased a 2019 PCX and love it. One problem I did find Is that there does not appear to be good tie down locations at the rear. I too use canyon dancers for the front. For the rear I bought the Honda rear carrier in order to mount a Givi case. By good fortune the carrier has two slots in the front of it which enabled me to put loops through each side and attach the ratchets to the loops.

You're right about the rear rack, it makes a good tie down point. I'm glad to know that you have had success with long term travel carrying the PCX. I'm sure it will take me a few days to stop worrying about it as we make our way down the road. We're stuck at home right now with snow on the way. We are waiting for repairs (new ignition switch) on the RV before we can leave and head for warmer weather. Thank you for the well wishes.

Speaking of RVs, on Thanksgiving Day we went over to our son's house to enjoy his nicely prepared meal. When we pulled up to his house we noticed a HUGE RV across the street, obviously visiting the neighbors. Not only was it bigger than a bus, but it had some kind of storage setup on its roof, around its multiple a/c units. It had a ladder on the back for accessing the roof. I would have to say that the RV was probably one of those you see on tv but not in real life. It had 4 expansion units, plus multiple awnings on both sides. I would guess that monster must have cost $500,000 or more.

........YES. Double ramp, or wider single ramp or an added twin to your ramp are good suggestions.
The Canyon Dancer is used by many as is the Cycle Cynch (< the one I have), both make the job easier, neater.
The reason I chose the CC is I read stories where the CD's bar pockets rubbed the grips and marred them while being transported. How much truth to that? I don't know. I read about them being used on Vespa's. Then they started recommending the CC. Just mentioning this, no biggie, I'm sure

Where to hook-up a PCX in the rear? Always an interesting question. One I had asked too. Okay, let's see:

1) Get down and look up under the seat pan, do you see the seat frame? (Here, I have a picture of my 2011 to show you). You might be able to use that....IF we have the same bar on our 2015. I'm assuming we do. If so, run a strap through that.

2) This is easier: Safer? Once your scoot is secured in the front and both center stand and side stand are "UP" you can then run a long strap through the base of the rear wheel (loop it around the wheel and then take the ends to each bed corner tie point. Secure them tightly to prevent hopping.

3) Some folks put a towel over the seat and run a strap over it and then to each rear bed tie points.
Some even run a strap under the seat and then back to each rear bed tie points. Not a fan, but.....whatever.

You could probably get away with just a front wheel chock and two front tie downs (with soft ties if necessary). Just don't know if your scoot will hop back there on your voyage. Do not leave any straps flying in the wind. You can use short Velcro pieces wrapped around them to keep them from beating your scoot up.

WhiteNoise, all good possibilities depending on what you're hauling with. That frame cross member under the seat pan would be my preference, except that the tie down points on my rack would cause the straps to rub on the muffler and air cleaner cover. My rack has a wheel chock so I could probably just lash the rear wheel to the rack instead of using tie down straps, but I'll err on the side of caution until I have more experience with this. I can't wait to get where it's warmer. 30 degrees here today - too cold for me to ride.

Mel, our RV is only 25 feet long and has no slides. You couldn't pay me to drive one of those big busses. To each his own.

the black and white one, the best!! here I have never heard of a motor home towing a car , did I get that right? wouldnt work, oh right somebody in the towed car steering, yeah ok, hmmmm yeah that would not be a great way to travel though unless you hated the missus in which case that would be fine

your idea about stowing the scooter would be good especially if the missus agrees to go pillion which my missus refuses to do !! (after she melted her shoe on an exhaust pipe before!)
