I just changed the oil but forgot to clean the oil filter.
Can I clean it with the oil inside or will the oil come out when I remove the filter? Pcx 125
Thanks

It doesn't have a filter, just a screen, and no you can not pull the screen without losing the oil. Unless you have never cleaned the screen, you can get by without cleaning it every single time. Has it been pulled before?

I don't think it has been pulled for awhile. Guess it'll have to wait a bit longer until next oil change then.Mel46 wrote:It doesn't have a filter, just a screen, and no you can not pull the screen without losing the oil. Never seen anyone report finding much if anything in it after the 1st clean around 600 miles (1st oil change) and if it does have a few small bits of metal in it - well, that's what it is there for. Only good reason to check and clean after that is to clean out as much of the old oil as possible.

One thing that you can do that has been done by others for the same reason is to:
1. drain the new oil into a clean container,
2. take the screen out and clean it,
3. put back the cleaned screen, (make sure the bolt holding it is tight),
4. screw the drain plug bolt back in (making sure you have the/a drain bolt washer,
5. pour the drained oil back into the bike through the hole where the dip stick goes (using a funnel),
6. put the dip stick back in to check the level,
7. and Then go riding.

Re: Can I clean the oil filter without removing the oil?
Frankly, I wouldn't bother either way. The PCX has less than 1l of oil, so even if you drop it at once it costs almost nothing.
Also as others have mentioned, what had been cached by the mesh screen it is in good place, what hasn't been capture is free to flow with the oil anyway.
Go ride it, and make sure you don't forget it next time you change oil

As many have said don’t bother. No need to overthink it, these little engines are made to run in Third World countries on cow piss octane wise… There are far more sturdy then we give them credit for.

The first time I cleaned the oil screen on my 2017 PCX 150 was at around 600 miles and I found some fuzzy looking stuff in it. I'd say it resembled a cotton-like lint material. Perhaps in manufacturing they wipe down motor parts with light colored high grade rags or something.

Re: Can I clean the oil filter without removing the oil?
51,000 kms now and I have yet to clean my oil screen. Mech always tells me not to bother.
I might clean it when I can find the time to change the oil myself. Haha
