PCX cut-out in slow traffic - 1st problem in 6 years

Post by iceman »

During my 9 mile commute home, which was very slow due to so many road-works everywhere, whilst struggling to edge forward, my PCX cut-out. I had ear plugs in but I did not hear any noise or such. Idle stop was not selected and the accelerator made no difference anyway, I had to pull across the the kerb.

Switching off and on and trying to start worked 1st time, and the 2/3rd's of my journey home after that was faultless, often still struggling to get through heavy traffic. Seems like the bike stalled but I heard and felt no struggle from the clutch trying to engage at low revs or such. Hmm.

Any thoughts? Just some kind of a stall?

Probably just a random stall. Just keep an eye on it.

I don’t think I’ve had a vehicle that hasn’t had a random stall at some point. I think the ECU just trips over itself sometimes.

I have had issues with the switches on the right handlebar in the past. It could be that the emergency stop switch is dirty or something with yours. I have had issues with the emergency switch and the brake light switch on the right handlebar. I have flicked the emergency shutoff switch back and forth a few times to clean it up a bit. I should replace the brake light switch though.

Thanks all. Emergency stop switch? What's that? (is that on europe models, if so I had no idea) :)

A couple of other things to consider, seeing as how your PCX is almost 6 years old, would be fuel contamination (thinking maybe some water in the tank from condensation?) and maybe an aging spark plug?

Try adding some fuel treatment to the gas tank and check the spark plug (or your records for when it was last checked/replaced). Sometimes spark plugs can get a "whisker" on them too.

Oh . . . and as far out as it seems . . . just make sure your battery connections are secure.

Only fitted on north america model, everywhere else gets the idle stop switch instead.
