oil change

Post by Shoe »

did an oil change at 561 miles and found it quite dark. cleaned the screen and found a cotton like substance. seemed weird with that low of mileage.

Went with the synthetic 10/30. Honda oil

Ive installed a proper crankcase breather on mine as ive noticed it was building too much pressure in there and oil was being blown out in to the airbox via rockercover breather hose and back in in to the engine combusting with petrol...Oil would drop by 200ml around 1500km oil change interval and oil would be black no light thru would shine! I really wonder if i would have changed oil at 4k interval by the book there would only be left some 400ml of oil from 800ml full amount!!
Anyway, since the crankcase breather was installed oil loss stopped being at 1500km check not a drop was missing from the dipstick and oil still looks honey colour so i could say id be confident to push it up to 5k service interval eventually as ill increase it gradually.
BTW proper crankcase breather will quicker dissipate pressure build up from gasses within the crank, reducing resistance movement on piston going up and down and alleviating that extra stress on crank and bearings it self, also will reduce oil temperature down a bit as those hot gasses leave the crankcase faster thus reducing oil degradation quicker as it shows my oil still looks newish after 1500k...
Someone here will say its bs but in practicality works a treat on mine.. :ugeek:

It's good that a crankcase breather has worked for you but you might have specific issues if your engine is burning that amount of oil over that small a mileage.

Its not burning thru the rings etc,but rather oil is traveling thru the existing breather hose coming from the rocker cover and in to the airbox where it gets sucked in to the engine with air and combusts with petrol.... The only reason it would do that would be due to excessive pressure build up in the crankcase where it will push oil out via that breather hose..Is that normal? I dont know, perhaps revised ESP Pcx that followed original Pcx not long after where regarding that issue would have been corrected by Honda. Either way,ive fixed it on mine and id recommend other to keep an eye for that..

Oh," i better mention that was the case when it was in a 125cc form, Crankcase breather was installed when it was 125 and solved the issue then" and now as a 170 has absolutely no such issues from day one. Just to clarify if anyone starts thinking its due to 170 in it,its not. BTW 170 is a rocket!
