Introducing me and my125 esp2012/13 PCX problems ;)

Post by rext3r »

Hey guys i'm the new one.

My name is Peter and i'm from Austria.
I bought my PCX last year .It'S a125 eSP model. (I wanted to register earlier but there was always a login problem.)
I really like to ride my PCX , it is fun and it also can keep up with most of the other vehicles on the road .
( if you know what I mean ^^)

The topspeed of my PCX was 108 km/h , but know after the first 1000 km inspection it only runs 100km/h.
I really don't know why.
I asked the mechanic and he answered that it could be because of the weather condition.
I understand if it is rainy or windy but it only can run 100 km/h
The first thing was that the mechanic filled it up with 1 liter oil (Elf 5W 40) Previously i got Castrol 10W 40
I asked him why he put 1 liter in it , because normally you should fill 0,8 to 0,9 liter in it. (mark)
He answered that he always fills 1 liter and the rest will be burnt.
After that I asked him if he adjusted the valves he said Yes.
I told him that normally the valves should be adjusted at 4000km and that the 4000 km inspection would cost more then I paid him.
He started to giggle and said that he forgot it on the bill.
So if you see I can't trust him and I really don't know what I can do know.
I removed the clutch and the transmission ....cleaned it . I checked the airfilter.( just a bit of oil was there)

And now I wanted to check out the spark plug but I cant get there because there is a pipe in the way.

Can someone help my how to solve these problems?
Maybe someone of you guys has also the esP model.

Overfilling the oil may be the cause.
Drain some out so that the level is correct.

valves that are too tight could also be the problem,if the valves aren't making a noise leave them alone

I have no clue what to do

@you you great advice.... :roll:

Something must be wrong , cuz if it is windy the topspeed is 90 km/h
And if the weather conditions are better she runs max.100 km/h.
before the inspection the speed of the Pcx was 108km/h.( almost in any weather conditions )

What I've forgot to say was that the acceleration from 0-60km/h (6-7sec) and 0-80 km/h (10 -11sec) is OK but from 0-100 km/h it is horrible.(23sec).

Peter, buy yourself Malossi vario with 10.5g weights and you want have any more drama, your top speed 'on speedo' will be 125kmh on good days....Stock Honda varios are horrible..
Dont worry about the oil in the airbox, they all do that, oil comes from rocker cover breather hose thats plumbed at the back of airbox. Be careful not to ride it for 5000km and than check on oil level as it may drop too low, should check it every 1000km and maybe top it up a bit.

Good luck

Your air filter might be clogged, change it. Intake manifold could be loose, tighten it. Check rear wheel speed sensor -- the mechanic might have tampered with it.
I have learned from my mistakes, and I am sure I can repeat them exactly.

Khaosaming is right with airfilter, all that oil in the airbox gets sucked in thru the airfilter as in the photo you can see inside drain hole and clear drain tube clean from oil so all that oil would have ended up clogging your paper filter thus restricting airflow. Get some engine degreaser and spray the filter clean, dry it out and whack it back in and see what it does then...

Thank you guys for your suggestions ;)
First of all I already have a modified Vario.
With the standard Vario it runs 119km/h on the mainstand , but on the street only 100 like I said.(after the inspection)
Meanwhile I bought a modified Vario cuz I wanted a better acceleration and topspeed.
So the new Vario runs 130 km/h on the mainstand , but on the road also max 100 km/h.

Now some questions:
I can't take out the airfilter ... I tried to lift it up with a screwdriver but the only thing was that I bent the metal frame just a little bit. ( I don't want to break it)
Maybe I have to drill the plastic bolts from the filter ? (I don't know)

How can I check the rear wheel sensor and how should I adjust it.

Best regards

In the photo no.6 filter is already out.. :| ,Paper filter is moulded with the plastic panel, its one piece, you can remove that metal behind it by cutting of the 4 plastic bits that hold it in place (use box cutter),engine will also breathe better. I took that of mine ages ago and it was fine. You cant do anything with speed sensor as the sensor is located inside gearing casing where all the gears are and there is nothing one can do with it to limit speed somehow so forget that one...
Clean your airfilter first and go from there..

Could that top speed problem be the reason of a wrong ignition timing at higher rpm?

The standard airfilter isn't cleanable, its a disposable item so if its blocked, bin it.
The speed sensor isn't adjustable, it either works or it doesn't.
Speed drop into a headwind is normal.
If you want to go faster, get a bigger scooter.

Hmm how would one get timing ignition wrong on pcx? Dont think so.....
That air filter is soaked in oil otherwise its fairly clean dirt wise after 1000km or so, just try washing the oil out with some engine degreaser or petrol, dry it and it will be good to go . Should breathe a lot better up on top rpm..
This is your first step and cheapest option to try first...

"Speed drop into a headwind is normal"

I know that... but like I said that in any weather conditions she runs max 100 .( on a. straight)
Also with a modified Vario and she's not hitting the rev limiter on the road.
It must be something wrong because before the inspection she ran 108 km/h on the freeway with a little incline and now with a big decline 103 km/h. That's suspicious.

. now the pcx is at the shop. let's see what the mechanic will say this time.

Best regards

Have you modified or changed the vario?
If so that could account for your speed loss.

My PCX150 also lost speed after first service. I thought it was because they put in the wrong oil but after changing oil with proper oil it hasn't made any difference. After hearing similar stories on here about speed loss after first service i'm now suspicious that something was actually done to the bike at the dealer.
