Best place to pickup front turn signal wiring (2015 PCX)

Post by MDIPCX »

I just bought a 2015 PCX and I'm trying to add my usual bike modes to it. That would include running lights, a better (audio and/or visual) indicator that the a turn signal is on and and a rear box with a flashing brake light. I've done this on a number of bikes/scooters but the PCX150 is proving to be one of the more difficult due to identification and wiring hidden behind somewhat tricky to remove bodywork.

I've pulled off the windscreen and rear instrument cover (it "only" too me about an hour to workout just how hard you need to pull and where all the screws were - there were two that didn't seem to be describes in the "how to do this" guides) and taken a tap off the wires to the accessory outlet to give me a 12v source that's switched on via the ignition key. It's fused at 5A and uses ~ 18 swg wire, so despite the "12v 1A" label on the accessory socket, it probably good for a few amps, more then enough for any running light LEDs. However I'm not sure what the best place is to tap into the lines to the turn signals. Looks like the flashing is controlled by the LED controller box (i.e. there's no "flasher relay". That's a 20 wire cable bundle and though I suppose I could open it up and tap into the wiring there (8 and 9 are the outputs to the LEDS, 17 and 18 are the inputs from the switch). Looks like the switch grounds the input pins to start the flashing. I'm a bit hesitant to open up that 20 wire cable.

I don't know anything about the LED controller (which appears to be part #38300-K36-A01 and costs around $100) and I haven't found much (anything) about it in the way of technical specs. Looks like grounding both pins 17 and 18 might turn all turn signals ("hazard" lights). Or it might not depending on the logic the LED controller uses. It might be easier to tap into the cable bundle coming from the switch. That should only have 7 wires in it rather than 20. Anyone try this?

I can handle installing either an audio signal or one of two bright LEDs to warn me when the turn signals are on (the dashboard indicators are not very easy to see in bright sun and way out of my normal line of sight, so I don't notice them). It's figuring out which wires to tap into that my question. Has anyone done this, and which wires did they use.

When I've done this I then need to figure out the easiest way to tap into the rear brake light wiring, but I want to finish the front stuff first!

Looks like nobody has any bright ideas for tapping into the front direction indicators.

I did tie into the wiring harness at the back for an added brake light. If you remove the rear "wing" there's just enough room to tap into the wiring harness that runs long the right side of the PCX just before it disappears into the tail light assembly. You could tap into the left and right indicators here, but then you have to run the wires back to the dashboard to add some more easily visible (and brighter) turn signal indicators that would attract your attention in daylight. It may well be easier to do that than tap into the wiring under the dashboard.
