Not starting when wet?

Post by chrisfsi »

For the first time, my PCX125 refused to start after it had rained. I hadn't put the cover on (no rain forecast), but we ended up with an unexpected downpour overnight, and bike was soaked in the morning. All the lights came on, usual start up noise, but refused to turn over at all. As in no response whatsoever to the ignition. Yanked in the brake handles and checked the stand, all OK, and we have no kill switch in the UK. So left in the car, drove to work instead, when I came home bike was completely dry and started first time without so much as hiccup.
So I'm thinking some water somewhere was causing a problem, but what's the most likely place? Without dowsing the bike with a hose and hoping I can replicate the issue, it's hard to do an analysis of what to look out for. Obviously I'll put on the cover more assiduously, but this has never happened before when it's got wet.
Any thoughts as to the likely culprit, and what (if it does happen again) I should look out for?

TIA..
