New member...first question
Hi everybody,
I just picked up my new PCX150 a few weeks ago, and love it! I actually look forward to my commute now (sort of), and dont mind pulling into the gas station anymore (my other vehicle averages 12 mpg). My question(s) is regarding proper break in procedure. The dealer told me not to worry about it "just let it warm up a bit". I have also heard not to take it on the freeway before the first oil drain, which I have already done so I hope that is wrong. Or, "just dont punch it for a while". I'd love to hear your opinions/theories on what and why and how to break in the 150 "correctly". CHEERS!

Re: New member...first question
Welcome to the forums.
There are basically two schools of thought out there. One is -- ride it like you stole it from the start. The other is -- take it easy until the first service, then ride it like you stole it.
I did it conventionally. For the first 500 km, I took it gently, slow acceleration and never full throttle, avoiding long rides at a constant speed (rpm).
I would say, just ride it normally but don't rev it unnecessarily.

I have learned from my mistakes, and I am sure I can repeat them exactly.

Just ride it normally but try and avoid red lining it. In my opinion giving it a bit of throttle now and again beds the rings in properly and avoids glazing the cylinder bores. Just make sure it's at operating temperature before giving it the message.

It probably doesn't make the slightest difference over the time you own the bike

Break in techniques have been debated since the dawn of the ICE. It's a honda, you can't go wrong. Ride on, and enjoy!

Re: New member...first question
We rode ours locally until it had its 600 mile service. Then we took it on back roads and all over the place. We tried to keep it under 60. When I first brought it home I had to ride for a short time in traffic that was doing 55 . The bike just took it like a champ. I would say to ride it in a normal manner without going 60-65 until it is broken in. If you find yourself in a situation where you have to open it up don't be afraid of it . Just don't abuse it until it is broken it. Then you can ride it like you stole it.

Re: New member...first question
For runing in jstst do what the manual advises which is to ride normally and avoid full throttle from standstill.
As for "warming up" there's simply no need, its ready to ride as soon as the engine starts.

Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong
