Idle Stop Warning

Post by kramnala58 »

Just a reminder to those of us who have the Idle Stop feature. It is best to not use it in stop and go traffic. I typically don't use it, but I lent my PCX to a coworker yesterday so that he could run an errand. He used it and it killed the battery because of excessive stopping and starting. Fortunately it went dead just around the corner from the office and not far from a Honda dealer, so I was able to get there quickly. I ended up putting in a new battery because it was only the equivalent of about $15 US at the dealer. I bought the bike used (it's a 2010) and didn't have any idea how old the battery was, so I chose to replace it as opposed to charge it.

Fortunately Honda have built in protection to the new mdel, if the battery gets low the idle stop gets disabled.

I used the idle stop all the time but after getting heated hand grips installed sitting at traffic lights and in traffic i thought i would turn it off. I was not sure how much extra work the battery would need to do and did not want to cause damage.
