Pcx150 with a ticking sound

My Honda 150 suddenly developed a noise it seems to be coming from the rear of the motor.
It sounds like a loud ticking sound and it is there all the time. Should I keep riding it?

How many miles on it? Have you looked at the oil? Maybe through a coffee filter. I would not drive it.

Any more details? Does the ticking speed increase as revs increase, does it increase consistent with road speed etc?

Do NOT ride it. That's likely your valves. You need to get them adjusted ASAP, you don't want to drop a valve and need a new top end.

Not much information to go on, other sources of "ticking" could be cam chain, leaking exhaust, electrical short on HT lead.

My bike has done 7300kls and the noise seems to change in loudness, it ticks at the same revs as the motor. I was thinking of taking it for a long fast ride, if it is the valves it might get the going.

Ok, so it's something inside the engine, probably, since the frequency of the ticking matches engine RPM. Could be something else, but probably a moving part internally.

That's not encouraging. I would not ride it. First thing I would do would be to drain the oil and cast a critical eye on it. Any metal bits or shavings in the oil?

I'd probably also pull the spark plug and take a look at that.

Those are two simple things that can be done easily to possibly find something out of the norm.

Like someone else said, could be an exhaust leak on the off chance. Hard to say without hearing the sound in person.

I've had something similar on two cars. One a 1969 VW Squareback, and the other a 1998 Ford Escort wagon. In both cases, the engines dropped a valve or valve seat with catastrophic results. The VW was fun, actually. It started knocking and I floored it for about 10 miles until it finally made an explosive BLAM! sound and they seized up. Smoke drifted faintly through the cabin, and I coasted to the side of the road. I then proceeded to walk toward home. A mile later, a van pulled over. It was a guy in my Army unit. He said "I saw that thing on the road, and I KNEW it had to be you. Only you would drive that thing". -- ha ha!

Is this noise a faint ticking, a more persistent tapping, or a loud clacking sound? Does it get louder under load or with higher RPM?

I got someone to check the bike, they pulled all of the side cover's and filters and stuff and could not find anything, they changed the oil and checked for bits. They looked at the plug.
It may be a taping noise, it is a distinct noise. I can not hear it while riding.

This bike is a problem, I paid $120 and was told it is inside of the motor and they wanted to pull it apart.
I rang the people I purchase the bike from, they say because the bike was not serviced the valves may be hitting the piston and if it was not serviced it is my fault, because the place I purchased the bike is 30 mins away I went to see the local dealer, he said he is willing to pull it apart and have a look, I said do you think if you do a service will it fix the problem, he said no a service will not fix it.

Should I pay some body to pull this apart knowing that they have know idea of what to look for.
I am very disappointed with this, I paid a lot of money for this honda I did expect a number of year of trouble free riding and I only got two months over the warranty period.

Don't run it. Get a some one to look at it that knows what they are doing. Probably the best advice as we cannot hear the noise.

Can you feel the bike is down on power? never had a valve touch the piston but would expect quite a loss in power.
I also thought that if the valves were noisy then the gap has increased, which would not make the valve touch the piston.

I have removed all the plastic covers and seat to expose the engine, the noise is in the engine 99% sure it's the cam chain rattling. I took it to a Kawasaki dealer as I thought I should get the valves checked and I asked them to fix the rattle. The problem now is, they quoted $150.00 to supply the cam chain tensioner, I have rang another honda dealer they can supply one for $60.00.
I have received no after sales support from the honda dealers, and now the other dealer is asking to much for the parts.

Can anybody update me on this. If any of you have replaced the chain tensioner, did that ticking sound go away?
