Nowhere else to post this!

Post by Lancer525 »

Hello.

Since this is the "Technical Help" subforum, I am in need of technical help, because I'm having a problem with the forum.

I just joined, (longtime unregistered reader) and now that I've signed up, I can't see images or videos.

I just get either a blank grey box where photos are supposed to be, or a grey box that has the words "A plugin is needed to display this content."

I could see images and video clips just fine before I registered, and have made no changes to my browser.

Any idea why this could be happening, and what I might need to do to fix it?

Which browser are you using?

Can you see the below images? They should all be the same.

If you can see all those, how about this video?

All seems normal from my end, so it is more than likely a client issue with your local computer.

Thanks for the replies!

I'm pretty sure it would have been normal from someone else's end, or hundreds of others would have posted something about it!

Interestingly enough, I can see the three photos of the guy on the white PCX, but I'm still getting the grey box with the text "A plugin is needed to display this content"

I'm using Mozilla Firefox v35.0

I think I know what might have happened. I was perusing the forum yesterday, looking at various photos and things to try to get some ideas for what I might want to do, and then closed it all down to the desktop when I stepped away to make dinner. Later that evening, I got back to the computer, started up Firefox, and registered for the site. On coming back and logging in, I couldn't see anything anymore. Not pics, not videos, but I was getting avatars. Weird.

On start-up this morning, I got the email indicating there had been replies (Ain't technology wonderful? ) I came in, and can see the photos, but not that dang video. I can see everything on places like Vimeo and YouTube, but apparently not embedded ones in places like this. That tells me that during the restart of the computer, it installed an update to something. Most likely Firefox. And that very likely caused the problem.

So now, what plugin exactly, would I need to be sure is installed and active to see video?

Thanks for helping me narrow this down!

That would be Adobe Shockwave Flash browser plugin. Either not installed or disabled would give that. Flash Player used to be needed for lots of web content such as YouTube but often you can remove or disable flash and use HTML5.
