Right so yesterday I went around London looking at scooters.

Apart from a Yam XMax the PCX was miles ahead of everything else. Being 6'1 tall is also a factor of the size scooter that I want, plus I want to take my A2 licence and get a T Max or equivalent in the not too distant future.

My issue is as a new rider (CBT rider) my insurance quotes and especially the excess are screwing me o_O

£600 ish per year I can swallow. £700 compulsary excess not so much :o

I'm therefore probably going to have to go down the used route and get a 2012/13 model for around £2000, if under 5000 miles I'll be happy

I know the 2015 model has a better seat, larger fuel tank and hazard lights and LED lights.

Are their any other major differences between the 2 years?

Have a good search around for insurance on the comparison sites.

The new model has a clock.
Handling and performance of the two are identical, there are no significant changes to engine or chassis.

If you're buying used, have a look at the Honda S-wing which can be had with ABS.

I'm also a cbt rider. North east England. Paying £108 on my 2015 Pcx. Pays to look around

is that FC? And what excess?

I can get £284 in London but £1500 excess o_O

I've used all the comparison websites and others and all throw up the same results :roll:

Probably just get a 2012 model and import a new seat from Thailand. Wonder how much I'll get screwed by the insurance for "modding" the bike :lol:

Rag it for 12/18 months then PX for a maxi 8)

I had 20 years no claims for cars, but now almost 1 yr on on two wheels. Being on a CBT with no past 2-wheel experience, insurance was high. MCE and others get mixed reviews but one person using them did ok (he wrote his vespa off within 3 months jsut by toppling over on gravel at 15mph!).
Finally went with Principal insurance for £300 tpft as I thought if I have an accident and claim, the cost of £600 comp + £600-1000 voluntary and premuims rising next year, it would be cheaper to have a good insurance company and tpft and pay for any repairs myself, or write the scooter off (take a chance).
So far no accidents so I will have 1yr no claims and saved myself a lot!
A friend is coming up to the end of his 2yr CBT and decided to take the direct entry, especiaily as he has always ridden a 125 motorcyle so is used to gears. He's been on a 600cc this weekend and takes the final parts Mon/Tue. I'd imagine he will pass. Cost was about £500!

I am paying £300 per year on thee quotes I have with Carol Nash with a £400 excess, that is in Manchester area 4k miles declared per year.

2015 has 12V socket, larger battery (just read that somewhere on the forum) newer fresh styling. Petrol door opens better and in the opposite direction of previous years. Hmm...anything else? "Can't think, brain numb, inspiration won't come" :P

8 Litre/2.1 US Gallon/1.8 Imperial Gallon fuel tank in the 2014+ vs. 6 Litre/1.6 US Gallon/1.3 Imperial fuel tank in the earlier models.

Wow your insurance is expensive.

I know the US 2015 model has shorter gearing, which means it can only push 64 mph compared to the 67 mph of the 2013 model.

But again, that's the US 2015 150 PCX, I'm not sure if the 125 or other models have the same gearing difference.

Well, my mate just passed his full licence with no minors! No often that happens - jammy so and so :) As son as he got on a 600cc bike he felt much safer and the handling much better than his 125cc - mostly due to the large width rear tyre and dual disc brakes up front.

I found 1 other difference to the previous PCX (and Forza).

When you take the key out of ignition it automatically slides the closer across meaning nobody cam tamper with it. I seem to remember on the other bikes you needed to do this manually by hand or with the key.

It's a small but smart improvement. :ugeek:

Again, not sure if this applies to non-US or 125 models, but it was brought to my attention(while trying to install an aftermarket throttle body) that the newer LED model uses twin throttle cables(one to open, and one to close) as opposed to the single throttle cable on the older models.

Might be useful given that I found my PCX kept gassing forward despite my releasing the throttle, like it was stuck at 10% throttle. But in all fairness, it didn't do that before I screwed with it :D .

Not sure I'm reading this right, but on my 2015 pcx it doesn't auto close the flap covering the key slot as I just push the key straight in every morning. You can (or I can) push the end of the key in and engage the magnetic 'key slot closer' manually which I did when I parked up at work when going on leave (locked the steering and closed the key hole).

Mine doesn't close automatically. The key has a separate hexagonal bump on one side to insert in a hex slot beside the key slot to close manually.

Hope this makes sense :D :D

Hmm...I just looked this one up meself in our trusty Honda owner's manual (2015 USA edition) ;)
