Finish flaking off of exhaust pipe.
2015 pcx 150 , 600 ish miles. I've noticed the finish flaking off of the exhaust pipe.....about 3-4 inches down from where it bolts onto the head . Anyone else have this issue . I've also noticed what looks like rust pits in the same area . There has been plenty of oil and coolant in the bike , FYI . The bike was not ridden on salty winter roads . TIA.

Mine is too. It's a sad fact of a pipe that was made to a cost point.
I resprayed mine with gas barbeque grill paint from Home Depot. It comes off easily (2 bolts at the engine, 3 bolts at the swingarm). Clean it up, then just hit the whole thing with the paint. It'll stay pretty for a couple years, then you'll have to do it again. The paint was cheap, around $5.

I thought the cost consideration was just down to a normal exhaust and not stainless or such, but if all it takes is a coat or two of decent paint, then surprised Honda did not do it (unless they want to keep the spares/aftermarket markets happy).

I'm not Honda, but it costs a lot when you multiply out an extra layer of paint over thousands of bikes. Honda stands to save literally millions over a production run by using a cheap paint in one coat.
The PCX is a friggin AWESOME bike, but it is an economy bike at the same time. A lot of components were built to a price point, which is part of why we get annoying tabs on the bodywork instead of better panels that screw together or even metal panels. They have no interest in keeping the aftermarket happy, but do have a bottom line to watch, and this is an unfortunate result of that.
The PCX is a friggin AWESOME bike, but it is an economy bike at the same time. Good info Maddiedog , thank you. Wasn't sure if there was a warranty issue looming or not. It's unfortunate one has to do this re-paint so early , but , if the engine stays reliable pulling duty at 55ish mph hour after hour , I'll be a happy camper. Thanks again .

For those that live near a John Deer tractor outlet, they have a muffler black paint that is real resistant to heet.

Did kinda worry me as I figure one crash at 60 mph will total the PCX guaranteed. sorry for being unhelpfull, I did talk to a friend before changing and his options were to take it off (so much easier to work with) and sand it, then use some VHT Paint (various colours available from auto shops) and spray it with 3 coats, It dries sort of matte. Alternatively you could get it sand blasted and ceramic coated.

Understand your point on cost savings Maddie , but , they may save $$$ on initial cost , they could loose future buyers by such a tactic . Have to deal with their BS issues.....oh well.

Took the pcx to Honda dealership where I bought it from just to see what they'd say. Even after 6 months of ownership ( bought in November 2014 ) and 600 miles-ish , they basically said it was a non issue . Called Honda customer service in California , explanned all . They said the dealer could send them photos and paperwork etc . Yea , the " non issue " dealership won't participate......it was worth a try though.

Even otherwise great looking bikes on sale at the dealer often have a rusty exhaust. When I went to collect my new pcx, some £6000-8000 used motorbikes which were cleaned up and polished had rusty looking exhausts (or at least the main pipe - seems to be one of those items that if non stainless steel will suffer with poor weather.
Be good to hear some months on how those re-painted exhausts are holding up.

If my 2015 pcx were a few year's old and or ridden or lived in a humid environment I'd understand . This is not the case however. Had Honda's in the past , never happened to those bikes even after several years......same matt black finish too . My 09 TW200's exhaust is still in factory shape , even after riding home in the rain from work many times......Honda is slipping......oh well , so it is.

My dealership changed the exhaust pipe twice and for free. The third one is fine after two years.

The PCX muffler finish looks like primer coat. Maybe Honda figured enough owners would want an aftermarket pipe to justify cheaping out on the paint.
This thread is sure a good heads up to get ahead of the curve and take the pipe off and apply a quality coat of paint. Thanks for the idea Maddiedog.

The part number is 18291-GE2-921 for both the 2013 and 2015 PCX150.
For two bucks I replace it each time.
