Need help using AFR controller for 170cc kit

Post by DYankel »

Hi everyone,
I plan on boring up my PCX to 170cc using SP Takegawa big bore kit. I have bought about 1000$ of performance tuning parts (full CVT set, bore up kit, handlebars,etc..). Installing them is fine for me as my mechanic can do it perfectly, however using the AFR controller is another story as we are not used to changing AFR at specific RPM (mostly because we do not fully understand how to determine the exact value). I tried using the preset fuel map but it feels somewhat inconsistent  . If someone who has experience with changing AFR ratios and specifically the SP Takegawa set can help me it would be great as my PCX is also my primary commuting vehicle and since I have not figured out how to use the AFR controller I dare not take her out riding as usual (been using my old bike to go to school  ). Thanks a lot for reading.

I'd repost this in the Performance section, you will get a better response there.

Did the AFR come with documentation?
Currently ride: Nothing right now - mostly mountain biking with my boys until they're old enough to ride

Would takegawa have any pointers for you? Contact them and see if they can suggest anything? The other option would be to try someone who does Ecu mapping and has a dyno. They may have done something like this before.

If this is regarding the Takegawa FiCon2 unit, there should already be preset maps on the unit that can be picked with any of their product combos(camshaft, bore kit, exhaust).

If you bought a different product that allows you to create your own fuel map, but doesn't come with any preset map, then you're sh*t out of luck for the most part.

What you would need to do is to install an O2 sensor and tune the AFR ratio at every combination of Throttle Position VS RPMs to get the AFR you want at any given point. That's not exactly easy without a lot of experience under your belt with fuel injection tuning. It's also recommended to use a wide-band O2 sensor, a decent one which would cost upwards of $200. You'd also be flying blind unless you've done this before, because even setting every point to an AFR of 13.5 would not mean your PCX will run smooth.

For simplicity's sake, if you don't already have the Takegawa FiCon2 unit, I'd suggest returning whatever you bought(or sell it), and buy the FiCon2 to handle the fuel injection.
