Noise before clutch engages - or seems that way

My bike seems ok but for ages it's had a 'whining' irritating noise when I apply throttle and before the bike takes off (not as soon as I rev up a little but just before or just 'at' the time the clutch should start to engage - after that it seems fine, even if I slow down to a crawl and before the clutch disengages, if I them apply throttle it's fine. I can hear the noise through my helmet with ear-plugs! The rear wheel seems to turn both ways with no undue noise (not entirely smooth but not making a grating noise so I believe the bearings are fine).

I wonder if it's belt/clutch related but no real idea. I'm hoping if anything it is the belt/clutch or in that area rather than a bearing issue. Trying to think of a way to record the noise as I've not got a bike cam.

Thanks. I don't get shudder anymore and try not to do too many gentle starts, but I guess some glazing is there to stay.

Could also be dust in the clutch. It needs a good high speed run over 50-55 mph to clean it out.

A steep slope and do an aggressive start, would help if you have glazing. Or simply ride a bit more aggressively for a few trips.
