break-in on my new pcx150

Post by overthetop »

picked up a new white 2015 pcx 150 3 weeks ago. have had it out twice so far, upstate ny winters are holding me back. was wondering about the break-in. do you really have to hold back for the first 300 miles? i have 75 miles on it now and it runs great but i'd like to venture out farther and will need to get up to 55-60 mph. anyone have any advice?

This is a very debatable topic. So I can only speak for myself. When I got my 2013 PCX, I simply cruised around town doing 50-60 km/h. A few days of serious seat time, and about 500km later, I changed the oil and rode the bike like normal, since at that point I felt the engine was broke in. At this point she has 24000km on her and runs like new.
Thats my 2cents worth. :D

Its true there are long winded threads that speak to newly installed piston rings and bearings. There are endless discussions on synthetics verses regular oil during break in. And some say you will never know because you'll trade the scoot for a new one before any symptoms of poorly managed break in would surface. I like the last one but still felt the need to error on the side of a happy engine. 300 miles goes fast on a new PCX in decent weather but if you choose to get on it don't put any additive in the oil and change it promptly at 600 miles. I bet the little bike will not let you down.

I would say homie speaks the truth. It's like which motor oil is best discussion; everyone has their reasons as to why their choice is a good one.

I do side with the school of thought that the piston rings need to be seated quickly for proper break-in of a new engine and an early oil change is a good thing.

So ride it with firm acceleration but not at constant speed or WOT(wide open throttle) and an oil change at 600 mile would be my recommendation.

do the oil change at 600 you will mostly see metal flakes that's normal, i know when I picked mine i had to take the expressway and was doing 50-55 most of the time , 2k later still ride like first day
