Honda pcx 125 oil change
Hi, I have a 2011 pcx 125. I recently done a oil change and filter clean. My question is, is .8L enough oil because when it is cold I do not see the oil but when idling for 2 minute I can see it slanted one side of circle is filled up to the second bubble while the other side is above the lower limit but below the first circle. When riding for 6 minute i checked again and now it has risen to the 2 on one side and above third on other. What is the correct way of checking. Is it when it is cold or normal running temps. Thanks

Re: Honda pcx 125 oil change
I found out that if you remove the strainer you need to add .9L but if you only change the oil and not the strainer you need to add.8L. What are the damages I could cause by running .8L which is .1L less than what I should put. Thanks

Re: Honda pcx 125 oil change
I'm assuming you didn't run it very far, and since you've presumably topped it off, you should be fine. because there was oil in the sump and it hadn't really had time to get down too terribly far, there's no reason any major damage should occur. In reality, you're supposed to fill it most of the way, run it briefly to slosh the oil around, check the oil level, then add whatever amount is needed to get the level where it should be. So really, if you had oil on the dipstick when it was warm, you're ok. Adding the additional .1 liter after the fact, so long as you do not over-fill the sump, is fine.

The sump is the bottom of the crankcase where the oil is.Mike888 wrote:Also what do you mean sump. I ran the scooter only 3 miles

Re: Honda pcx 125 oil change
I believe you are supposed to check once warmed up and on the centre stand, oil between the groves on a cleaned dip-stick, etc, and the 0.8 or 0.9 difference is as you say to do with taking out the oil drain. In the real world, all you ever need do is cold or hot, take the dip-stick out and clean it, put it back in (not screw it in) pull out and check oil is somewhere on the knurled end part of the dip-stick. A small difference in coverage of the knurled end of the stick due to engine temp (so ok to check from cold) makes no difference in the real 'don't panic' world.
Check often enough and you will be ok, any finer filling or checking is over the top and not needed. Long as you have enough oil, it's clean and changed at the service interval, the bike will be just fine - worrying above this like some people do is over the top and not necessary. Don't let it get too low (so checking from cold is fine) or dirty is all that is needed.

Re: Honda pcx 125 oil change
Hey I have another question, how hard is it to adjust the valve. I recently bought gauges. Can someone try to give me the steps of adjusting the valves. Also what do I set the valves to. Thank you so much

Re: Honda pcx 125 oil change
Valve checks and adjustments aren't difficult if you know what you're doing, but that's the thing, you need to know what you're doing with it. They do have to be checked and adjusted with the engine cold. It also helps to understand what you're doing with it. If you want to give it a try, I suggest educating yourself on the subject. There are important bits to the process.Mike888 wrote:Hey I have another question, how hard is it to adjust the valve. I recently bought gauges. I'd really recommend, with your desire to do so much of your own maintenance, you should get a service manual.

Semi-related question....
Where's the least-expensive place from which to order a service manual?
I know I'm going to need one.

Re: Honda pcx 125 oil change
Thanks. Best price I could find was $31.99 from Helm.
I think that will be the best investment I could make at this point.
