Evening everyone,
My scoot is due its first mot (UK) in September and wondered if I will have to put the standard exhaust back on? I currently have the arrow reflex 2.0 with the db killer in. Will they fail the bike with a louder exhaust than standard?

Re: Upcoming MOT
Unlikely it will fail for that unless the silencer has "not for road use" or similar wording stamped on it.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

Re: Upcoming MOT
As GN2 states, it should be for road use, but it also needs to meet emission standards and have a CAT filter which yours seems to do.
Loud exhausts can cause issues but it depends on how strict the test centre is. UK (EU) law states aftermarket exhausts are illegal if they are louder than stock and for motorbikes (scooters) there may be a EU limit of 82dB. This seems to be the case reading GOV pages and feedback on forums (pistonheads, etc). But, it depends how 'dodgy' your test centre is - most could not care too much for such details as long as it basically meets emission standards and does not have 'non road use' stamped on it.

Your right - and that's surprising due to all the fuss with emissions and CAT's being fitted - what's all this cat's and pigeon's stuff!Alibally wrote:Emissions aren't checked on a bike. Only noise. Sent by carrier pigeon.

Re: Upcoming MOT
Hmm, I have put on the racing collector, which doesn't have a cat rather than the street legal catalytic converter down pipe. The exhaust is street legal I believe, but I am wondering if the addition of the racing collector may fail the test. I am not adverse to fitting the old exhaust but I no longer have the attachment bolts and would have to order some more. I might just take it down and see what happens, I need tires, pads and shoes as well anyway.

I'm not in the UK, but I'll throw my 2 cents in anyway: If the only modification adding this muffler has entailed is the removal of the stock muffler and the installation of the aftermarket unit--I mean, no hi-flo air filter was added, no fuel-injector regulation device--so that this muffler basically serves only to make your bike sound loud, without enhancing performance, then I would say: Take it off if you are not certain it will pass.
If you have modified the air flow and fuel injection along with the exhaust and are getting a performance boost--then it is worth taking a chance with it.
Thems my views.
