Regulator/rectifier

Post by parkmoy »

Anyone know which one is used on the PCX125 and where it is physically located?

The charging is done by the AC generator/ starter. It looks like the charging and rectification is controlled by the main ecu. Is your bike not charging? Have the battery tested. Most auto parts stores will do this for free if you bring it in.

Hmmm.... a little more complicated than I thought. The battery is fine, it's just a lack of charging voltage to it.

The AC generator / starter is referred to as a stator. It's on the right side of the bike, in front of where the swingarm mounts to the motor, and behind where the cooling fan shroud is. Disassembly is on pages 13-1 to 13-9 or the US service manual.

Are you having trouble with starting your bike?

Only when the battery has gone flat :) When charged there is no problem.

Is it not charging or do you have a current drain?

Could be a duff battery.
It's happened before on the PCX I think Honda got supplied a dodgy batch.
There's been a few replaced under warranty.

There have been a number of posts with duff batteries and a battery can seem fine when not under load but is still the cause. I would try a new battery first.

Your location is not listed in your profile... If you're in the USA, you can remove your battery and take it to a Wal-Mart. In the automotive section, they have a battery tester you can use for free to check if the battery is good or not.

I'm in the UK. The battery is fine, it's been tested by a specialist battery supplier. There is no difference in voltage across the terminals when the engine is running and revving therefore it is not charging on the scooter.

How old is it? Is it still under warranty? Electrical problems are very hard to track down, it might be best to take it into the dealer.

It's early 2011, no warranty. I think maybe take it to a dealer is the answer.
