Leaking shocks on 2015 PCX 150

Post by tallcoolone1963 »

Good day to all! Has anyone else experienced leaking shocks on their PCX? I have a 2015 with only 6100 miles on it, and BOTH shocks are leaking fluid.......!! This is the 2nd issue I've had since new (12/2014), the other being an electrical failure at a mere 500 miles. (It was due to a faulty alternator/starter).......Is it just ME or is this a bit early for the darn thing to be leaking fluids already ?

Depends where you keep it and the kind of riding you do. Seals can last for years and years, but if they dry out for some reason, or are put through a lot of stress, they can leak. I suppose it's possible that the seals might have been faulty from the factory as well. Of course, I'm assuming the leak is at the seals (most likely since there is a lot of movement/friction at that location) rather than at the bottom. If the screws came loose at the bottom, that would possibly indicate incorrectly torqued bolts, though I would think they would have come loose a lot sooner were that the case.

Either way, a rebuild isn't a big deal and only takes a short time and a little bit of effort.

Are you talking about the seals in the rear shocks?? I don't think I have heard of a single case of that happening. Hmmm.... in fact, many of the PCX owners have changed out their original shocks for after-market ones because the original shocks are not adjustable. I have two 2013 models and I pulled the original shocks on both a long time ago. They are just sitting on the shelf in my basement. I have not regretted swapping them.

Don't remove anything until you try this tool. You live in a arid, sandy part of the country and it's most likely just dust in the seals. Your bike isn't two years old, can't be anything else, especially if BOTH are leaking. Get the 5 dollar tool and keep us posted please. Reviews for sealmate are outstanding, good luck.

Or just cut a piece of plastic to shape and use that.
I got my Forza through its MoT test by doing just that when my left seal was leaking badly after a long trip, oil running down as far as the caliper.

Also woth checking your stanchions for corrosion, if the chrome gets pitted and rusty they will need repaired or changed.

Good point but he's Arizona, never rains. Do give the poor guy his five bucks for sorting this out with his cleaver invention, saves us BIG service charges and labor plus the tossing out of perfectly good fork seals 8) You have to love the guy.

Bit of plastic lemonade bottle cut to shape sorts it most times.

No way I'm giving anyone five bucks for something I can make myself from what would otherwise go in the trash.

But you reconcile by making something no one else wants to make and selling that. When did we lose this, it's just lost on the world these days :( I do something no one else wants to do, maybe they can but they don't want to as they are too busy doing what they do best.
