Re: Tail of the Dragon
Just the wife and myself going. She won't ride so need to find something in those black hills for her to enjoy, food, shopping, something. Don't know why she won't get on a motorbike with me
My son sent me this video of his 54 year old mum at his college yesterday and clearly it's just me she dosent trust
You won't catch me letting a little girl hold the life line on one of these death traps

Re: Tail of the Dragon
Come on, girl, it isn't that hard to climb those rocks! I think some people make things harder than they need to be. For the last couple of days I have been chopping my way through 2" vines covering and pulling down our fences out back on our 1/2 acre back yard...another 1/4 acre in front gets my attention 2 times a week. The back yard gets my attention a lot but not the fence, which can no longer be seen. The Wisteria is beautiful, and smells glorious, but it is killing the trees and taking over. Along with it we have a lot of ivy and other types of vines. So I have taken out my choppers, and saws, and hatchet and gone to work. As I locate the fence I have to clear it. Then I pound in a steel post with my 5 pound sledgehammer, hook up the lawn tractor to a tow rope and pull the old fence post up till it is straight, and wire tie it to the new post. All of this and I turned 70 in September...and I have leukemia, so doing some rock climbing should be easy for that lady! She is only in her 50's.

Re: Tail of the Dragon
I will tell her Mel says she needs to step it up
I do think riding the Dragon for 30 minutes will either be pure adrenaline and fun as hell or exhausting for me. Kinda want to take the scoot along and ride it down after going up on a sport bike. Might need a two bike hauler, but I have the winter to sort it out. At least she will tag along and cart my bikes. Surprizing to me she's even signing on for this trip, I don't think there will be a lot of malls or starbucks around.

Re: Tail of the Dragon
Homie, I will get you some info later today (my time). I am a member of a maxi scooter forum which held a ride week there. It sounds like they stayed at a campground with both trailer sports and cabins. I believe there were just over a dozen of them (maybe 2 dozen) and no one had complaints about accommodations.

Another nearby place to stay is Fontana Dam Village, a large collection of cabins that were originally used to house the dam workers, and that have been renovated. There's also a lodge there you can stay in. Plus they have restaurants and other facilities on-site.
BTW, the best time to drive the Dragon is early morning on weekdays. Also be alert for stuck trucks that were too large to make some of the curves and police with radar guns at various points.

Re: Tail of the Dragon
Yes it's nice, rather be back in Colorado though.
Be careful with speed traps. I take my mustang at first light to avoid traffic and the popo.
The dragon is not the best road there. I'll try and post some pics of maps later. I prefer the ocee loop. It's not as technical but a nicer ride. I've never taken the scooter though.
