Exhaust end hole experience questions...

Hi all,

Im considering adding the 3 holes evenly spaced in the end cap to retain the most structural and visual integrity, it's a free mod and keeps the catalytic converter in place:

What diameter holes?
Ever have a passenger? Annoying to them such as boominess or raspy sounding?
How many miles or kilometers have you driven since drilling?
What kind of riding do you typically do and what is your average fuel economy over time (definitely don't want to drop that as mine is stellar with my 6ft 200 pounds)?
Any ill effects at all?
Any fellow Canadians have inspection issues?

Personally I think you'd be ruining an otherwise good stock exhaust...
You'd be better off buying this very cheap, amazing sounding, stock looking exhaust:

But, start small and work your way up, because you can't go back.

Here's a section of the stock exhaust to help you visualise where holes would and wouldn't work.
I think a member here added 3 holes underneath in the area between the 2 mounting bolts?
That's where the most unmuffled house would come out anyhow, and it looks thinner there...

I have to warn you that just because it's louder, it may not sound better or nicer to the ears.
I actually had the reverse effect when I quietened my aftermarket exhaust by lengthening the baffle.

Hmmm I didn't take into account that rear baffle plate. D'oh. May negate what I was going for although I guess I could drill through the end cap and that plate.

All the silencing treatment is done by the time you get to the last chamber.
So drilling holes there may sound a little farty, but will certainly look unsightly.

And yep. $50usd + shipping. Slow boat to Aus for one of those is $35usd.

I did this mod a few years ago by drilling 3 equally spaced 9/32" holes. It does not ruin the stock exhaust.

It does relieve some back pressure and make it sound like a slightly bigger engine. It does not sound farty.
And it looks OEM.

It does NOT gain horsepower. Not that I could tell. I was just tired of the engine sounding like a backup power generator.

Well thanks everyone. I'm tempted by the look of the end holes but that internal end plate most likely would prevent any gain in flow. And also tempted with the inexpensive exhaust system above except it doesn't have a catalyst. I am again leaning towards sendler2112's exhaust bottom inside hole further up front about 5 inches from the front seam. The side hole would be fairly easy to reverse with a tiny bit of welding if I don't care for it.
