New PCX owner - with a slight problem
hi everyone,
i recently bought myself a 2011 PCX in black to get me around as a cheaper option to getting a second car.
So far i have had fun riding it but now that it is getting colder my hands arent enjoying it so much! It was stock when i bought it but i have put a taller Givi screen on it along with a Givi top box so i can fit all my water proofs and helmet in it when i'm at work/uni.
I have today filled up on my way to work - the fuel filler cover opened fine but when i tried to close it it wouldnt latch........ i tried a couple more time and it would not latch and when i had a closer look the locking pin had snapped off! crap!
has anyone else had this problem?
i havent had much luck finding the replacement part i require either!
any help greatly appreciated - i dont like leaving it unlocked while im at work!
cheers
matt

New PCX owner - with a slight problem
It still should be under warranty. Take it to a Honda dealer to see if they can help.

You can get the replcaement part here. Item #6 on the diagram.
http://www.powersportsplus.com/parts/se ... parts.html
There are two screws that hold that in place, one on either side. If you open the cover lid you'll see them. They hold the end of this latch in place. check to be sure that those screws didn't come out or that the end came unscrewed somehow.
The entire panel with the fuel fill door in it comes off in one piece. I'd have to check, but I believe you do not need to remove any other panels to get it off. Once off, you can see the cable device.

Re: New PCX owner - with a slight problem
If you bought it secondhand, or it's out of factory warranty like my 2011 is, you'll need to order either a new fuel lid or a new latch assembly. They're cheap though, so you're in luck. The part is on the Honda Microfiche for the PCX on the "Body Cover" page.
Honda parts are super-cheap on powersportsplus... Here's their page for the part you need: http://www.powersportsplus.com/parts/se ... parts.html
I think you'll need either 1 or 3 on the microfiche, both of which are under $5.

Re: New PCX owner - with a slight problem
It seems a bit silly needing a locking petrol lid on a PCX anyway. Who would bother to try siphoning off maybe a gallon of gas? Though I suppose it stops kids adding sugar into the tank...

Re: New PCX owner - with a slight problem
That's the main problem in the US. My friend had to have his entire fuel system replaced on his Isuzu Rodeo because someone poured something in there that gunked up all the gas and fuel lines. It wasn't cheap. People are awful.Taz wrote:Though I suppose it stops kids adding sugar into the tank...

Re: New PCX owner - with a slight problem
Thanks for your help - as im in the uk i dont seem to be able to find a local stockist - looks like a trip to honda!
yeah im not worried about someone stealing my fuel just i dont want someone putting stuff in the tank or robbing the fuel cap for fun!
i'd much rather have a locking filler cap rather than the latch as it is to be honest.

Wouldn't the sugar be more expensive than the gas?

Re: New PCX owner - with a slight problem
Hi
I got the same problem few days ago. This issue started from the moment when I upgraded fuel lid in accordance with this movie :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArQW4odqcS0
After this I could not close the lid - I had to push it really hard and it opened during way home back.
What I done to amend this:
1. I polished the metal latch part in the plastic lid cover - it was moving and closing much more easy
2. I took out part no 3 and clean it deeply. There is a metal bolt and spring - I washed it with the petrol and put some WD40 on it
3. Assembled all together - now it is working perfectly
There was no need of any new part - especially item no 6 ( this is metal cord which connects fuel button with the latch - nothing to do with this problem)
The only one thing which might be replaced is plastic cover on the metal bolt in latch - item no 4.

Re: New PCX owner - with a slight problem
Mine resists latching easily. I push the release switch and press the lid shut at the same time.
My biggest aggravation is the lid doesn't pop up high enough when released to get a finger under the edge.
Solution...slip a credit card under the edge and lift it.
Gee, it is hard to find anything else to complain about my little red rocket.
