Strange noise from my pcx 150

Post by autosignaljohn1 »

Hi my friends,

I hear for a year now this noise from my pcx 150.I found a video from someone else who has the same problem
and I attach the link.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_TabfUS43U
Does anyone know what that noise is?
Sometimes when the engine warm up for one hour the noise stops and also when I rev up the engine, the noise stops.

I am waiting your answers.
Thaks a lot

How many kms you have on your scooter? I'd think of a worn and slightly longer belt, or worn variator weights rattling.

Ι have 40.000 km now and I have changed the belt at 25.000km.When I went to a service, they told me that this sound comes from the exhaust because something inside has broken.
Could it be the exhaust?
I am very anxious because I use the pcx everyday and I'm afraid I would have a problem from this noise.

Thanks a lot

I can't tell which noise you are referring to. The muffler on that video sounds like it is going bad but it isn't a major problem yet. If it is the muffler on yours it should take more than 15 minutes to change it.

I am talking about the noise behind the normal noise of the engine....something like there is a hole in the exhaust.....

Mechanical products have all kinds of noise. Robert Pirsig, in his tome, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, spoke of the noise that eminated from his bike, a Honda Hawk 305 (amusingly, a mid-sized bike for the time, 1968). He called it "Nickel-and-Dime sound" - "...like there was a whole bunch of loose change flailing around inside the motor. Sounds terrible, but it's just normal mechanical noise."

I hear funny noises out of my new-to-me PCX150 (1600 miles now) also. Quite different from the sounds my 125 made. But the oil is fresh; and the filter was completely clean three days ago. It starts, it runs, it's delivering 100 miles a gallon...I think I'll leave it alone (aside from the drain-plug issues; Heli-Coil shopping now).
