left foot peg twisted out

Post by odednovo »

After a small side crash the passenger left foot peg twisted out.
I bought a new foot peg but it was not enough, the inner mount with the two bolts was twisted out too.
any ideas how to twist it back without damage the frame

Take it to a machine shop, they'll put a blowtorch on it and bend it back into shape. Not something you can do at home.

Maybe it is the way the picture was taken, but it looks to me like the frame was cracked too. Definitely take it to a shop to be evaluated.

The picture was taken very close to the foot peg mounting so it looks like the frame is cracked but it is not, the frame is OK.
I thought about using a heavy hammer on the mounting to twist it inside but I am not sure about the results and the effect on the whole frame.

Your can't Just bang on it , you need to heat it up, then apply torque.

It looks like it is bolted on, so unbolt it and go from there. That way you ca see if the bend is just in the bolted on part, or also affects the frame area where it bolts on.

Looks like it is bolted .. Just remove the peg , take it to the anvil or vise and whack it straight or use the vice as a press to straighten out. Not a big deal.
