gn2's picture/avatar...what is it?
Anyone care to take a guess? I couldn't help but wonder after seeing some 4+ year old thread on the Ubuntu Linux forums and seeing that exact same picture.

gn2's picture/avatar...what is it?
It's the album cover for the Pink Floyd album Meddle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meddle

What was the thread about?

It was about Ubuntu eventually becoming a rolling distro instead of the current 6 month release plan they've been doing for years.I thought I had my beans burnt longer ago than that, certainly feels like it

I am personally sticking with Mint Linux 13 LTS. Ubuntu packages without all the Ubuntu crash reports, and I still get to keep my Ubuntuone cloud (hence no Debian).

Also, my guess for your picture was that it was a sea anemone or hydra. Guess I was off huh.
Re: gn2's picture/avatar...what is it?
I don't see it.The cover, containing a close-up shot of an ear underwater, was, as with several previous albums, designed by Hipgnosis...

Re: gn2's picture/avatar...what is it?
I thought it was a chicken embryo.

Not sure which is more unfathomable, your post or Pink Floydjasontheparamedic wrote:It was about Ubuntu eventually becoming a rolling distro instead of the current 6 month release plan they've been doing for years.I thought I had my beans burnt longer ago than that, certainly feels like it

o.O To Windows! Windows license = $$$.$$. Ubuntu or Mint = $0.00. For 99% of use cases, they're interchangeable too. People are just afraid of Linux because it's not what they're used to.

Re: gn2's picture/avatar...what is it?
My Linux experience started with Yggdrasil on a 486-33, graphics card was a ET4000, Ethernet board was a 3C501, kernel was near 0.99-something. Those were the days...
Bike history: Germany: Staiger 50cc 2-stroke, BMW 250 (from 1952, my age), Honda Dax ST70, Honda CB 125 (Twin), Honda CB 750, Kawa Z400j
Thailand: Kawa Zephyr 400, Honda Wave 110 S, Kawa ZX130, PCX 150 (as far as I can remember)

Nowadays the latest kernel is 3.8 that is being shipped in the distros. It pretty much recognizes any hardware you plug in. I would say that Linux is great! Plenty of distros and desktop environments to choose from.
