Had it 14 months done about 11000 miles when I bought it . I have done 4500 miles on it ,changed oil n air filter never looked at variator until now. Further investigation has revealed variator tried to escape from casing due to retaining nut coming off .it has buggered the casing and worn outside of the variator away drive .not sure why this stopped engine does anyone have any idea,s ie a sensor ?

Travelling home this morning my pcx lost speed made a screeching noise then was down to about 45 mph with normal noise and acceleration upto that speed and travelled another 4 miles but a junction knocked revs off and it died then would not restart any idea,s what's up ?
