Yes and it isn't a problem really. It's just there to hold the cable

Yes, it's SM procedure. Take time to fit the right socket on that soft aluminum hex. Apparently too many over tighten that back up making it difficult for the next service.

Another great tip Homie - just added that note to my Service Manual as well. About another 100 miles or so to go until first oil change. Will be looking to remove any and all sparkling metal chips from screen resulting from break-in mileage.

You won't find any sparkling metal chips But you will find a tiny bit of lint from the factory workers gloves or rags and some very dirty oil which will be cleaner next time Yep, that nut can be soft and shallow, some have ground down the face of a perfectly good socket to insure they get a good bite and move it clean and quick the first turn. The entire kit is available on ebay if you round it off and have to use more aggressive tools. Do not attempt with a crescent wrench I haven't had an issue with the OEM part as it wasn't tight on a new bike and I didn't over tighten it when I put it back.

Somebody also mentioned grinding down the face of your socket so that it fits really flat onto the hex part of the nut. Most sockets have a bit of flare to help them glide onto a nut or bolt, but in this case there is not much projection and that flare will make it impossible for the actual hex of the socket to reach the hex of the strainer cap. And under no circumstances try a twelve point.

Gotcha,thanks for the reply's,i all ready cleaned the screen and dropped the cable.
Used a 17mm 6 point socket was not sure how tight it was,it was the first oil change.
