Re: What is this?
The big shame is the hole drilled in the body plastic, which may defeat the weather resistance of the bike. Make sure you get that properly plugged up. Honda didn't intend for rain water to be dripping in there.

Re: What is this?
Just to let you know, that gas cap panel takes a whole 2 minutes to remove. I have replaced several and take mine off almost every time I take my bike apart because that is where my wires run for just about every front auxiliary light I have added, plus I once had an accessory outlet there...well to the left of there on that panel... and the panel is cheap to purchase online.

Damn. Was hoping it was to set the turbo boost!brrit wrote:Ok... Mystery solved.
I had the service tech take a look around the wiring. It led to a wiring harness (relay) that appears to have managed some type of light bar. Go figure.

We are talking PCX, aren't we??

The gas cover is easy to transfer off of the old assembly. You will need to transfer your clips as well, but this is not a hard piece to swap out. Get some plastic auto trim removal tools from some place like Harbor Freight for present and future use.

As far as the 2016 PCX is concerned, I don't know if the 2015 model has the same part but here is the page for the 2015 model.

Re: What is this?
Mel pre LED PCX body works are quite a bit different than everything 2015 and later. You know this, actually none of the body plastics are interchangeable at all.
Brrit you won't pull a 2018 PCX console panel off in minutes as Mel can on a 2103. It's just not the same bike or the same assembly. If I were you I would wait until you do your valve clearance check which will get you within striking distance of getting the console out and in the mean time I have a perfectly acceptable cosmetic fix for that... ask me how.
Maveric, how in the heck did you do that

It's easy - just open in Photoshop - convert to LAB mode - invert both A and B channels - apply a layer mask - then reveal just the portion we want using a selection.homie wrote: Maveric, how in the heck did you do that

It's going to start a riot over at the Buell forum. They've been waiting to see the new color so I think I will bomb them with that insteadTheMaverick wrote:It's easy - just open in Photoshop - convert to LAB mode - invert both A and B channels - apply a layer mask - then reveal just the portion we want using a selection.homie wrote: Maveric, how in the heck did you do that

Well that Sucks! They took one of the simplest parts to remove from the pcx and turned it into another impossible to remove plastic pig piece!

brrit your LED PCX is riddled with these trim clips where as your pre-15 models have none so you are not familiar or you would have thought this one out yourself. Drill the hole the proper size and pop one in for now... done!

Re: What is this?
Or...instead of using a trim clip that homie mentioned above,
You can use a plastic hole plug sold at any hardware store. They come in different sizes and a few colors. I've used them for all kinds of applications. Remove your "what's this" item from the scoot's tunnel area then ride it down to Ace hardware or another nearby. Once there you can size up a plastic plug and be done. Before applying it you can choose to dab the plug in a bit of silicone before seating it.

All this talk about "what is this. . ." now I have a project to do.
Time to build a mini flux capacitor and mount it to the fuel door!!
Some strip LEDs, a controller and some inventive building and we'll see what happens!!

Re: What is this?
Good stuff, folks. Thanks for all the input on the knob.
Probably going to try and remove it and cover the holes. I figure a tank bag would cover the holes anyway, right?
